The schedule of the Embedded Linux Conference Europe and Open Source Summit Europe in early October in Prague has just been published:

https://events.linuxfoundation.org/embedded-linux-conference-europe/program/schedule/

I hope this can convince you (and your management if needed) to join us in Prague (week of Oct. 5-9... there's also a Yocto Developer Day on Oct. 6!) for several days of intense knowledge sharing and networking. All this will make your daily work easier and smarter on the following weeks and months.

Source: https://www.bloctel.gouv.fr/

Il manque cependant des informations sur qui contacter pour se plaindre du non respect de ces nouvelles règles.

I'm happy to have a talk proposal accepted at the Embedded Linux Conference Europe in Prague, between Oct. 7 and 9.

Both secure boot and A/B updates techniques are well documented, but most often without considering their mutual requirements. In this presentation, I will share solutions I found and used in a recent project. I will also share implementation details with U-Boot and @yoctoproject@fosstodon.org .

Perfect day starting with a cup on Indian tea with milk, before working on embedded Linux with @yoctoproject@fosstodon.org .

Thanks to my friend Beleswar Prasad Padhi for bringing this incredibly tasty tea from India and to the @embeddedrecipes@fosstodon.org conference for allowing us to meet again.

The Call for Papers has opened for Yocto Project Workshop on Oct. 6 in Prague, on the day before the Embedded Linux Conference Europe, and sadly during Linux Plumbers 🫢

This is a great opportunity to share your experience with your favorite build system as well as your contributions and ideas. So, don't hesitate to submit a topic at https://pretalx.com/ypdd-2026/cfp, especially if you have never done it before, as we are always keen to welcoming new speakers.

I hope to see you there!

Just found this on The Linux Foundation events page. Open Source Summit Europe should be in Glasgow, Scotland in September 2027. After Prague in 2026, it's also likely to be the next location of the Embedded Linux Conference Europe!

https://events.linuxfoundation.org/

As far as I recall, it's the first time we have the next location before event is over.

Just realized that Coverity Scan has stopped scanning the Linux kernel sources for vulnerabilities. The last analysis was on Dec. 1, 2025.

Does anyone have details to share about what happened? No need to remind me this shouldn't be a surprise with proprietary software...

First time I find this Wikipedia page about Linux kernel history:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_kernel_version_history

For each kernel release, it's great:
- To know when it was first released
- To know when it will reach its End Of Life (EOL)
- To know the main changes it brings

I will mention it in Root Commit's Linux kernel course:
https://rootcommit.com/training/linux-kernel/

It's been 2 years since I announced my new journey as an independent embedded Linux engineer and trainer.

I launched Root Commit, contributed to Yocto/Linux kernel, shared my learning through 18 talks (I was surprised when counting!), created hands-on training, published 6 YouTube videos, and became a Yocto Ambassador. I traveled sustainably (1 flight in 2 years), reconnected with old friends and made new ones. I'm grateful for everyone’s support! ❤️

Are you interested in learning the internals of your Linux OS? A great way to start is with Embedded Linux and with the RISC-V architecture which is less complicated than recent ARM systems.

Check-out the latest version of my "Embedded Linux From Scratch in 50 minutes (on RISC-V)" tutorial, given last Sunday at the JDLL conference in Lyon, France: https://rootcommit.com/pub/conferences/2026/jdll/embedded-linux-from-scratch/embedded-linux-from-scratch-riscv.pdf

Build and understand your own Embedded Linux system on a virtual RISC-V platform, using these step by step instructions.

You'll see what our small contributor community has achieved so far and what it could achieve if you get involved too.

For me, the events in Nice were also the opportunity to meet for the first time Yixun Lan, the SpacemiT SoC kernel maintainer, and meet Drew Fustini again, the T-Head and Tenstorrent SoC maintainer. I also had Khem Raj in the room, our layer maintainer.

Loving electronics, embedded software and also books? If you're going to Embedded World next week, come to The Yocto Project booth (Hall 4-648), share some coffee, experience, good company and take a Yocto bookmark home!

In addition to the "favorite commands" one, I'm happy to release a new "most useful global variables" one.

I'm printing a bunch today for visitors to our booth, but here's also a PDF version you can use to print your own:

You may wonder about the yellowish background color of the presentation screen. I realized, but too late, that my desktop's "Night Light" mode was on. This wasn't obvious in the room, but video recording amplified it. You can see I'm caring for your eyesight too 😅

Quick announcements may be made and you will be able to ask questions, share experience, and learn from others. That will also be an opportunity to connect with other contributors and users, and have a fun time together. Beware, some edible items may fly over our heads 😇

I hope to meet you there!

Happy to share that I will speak at the OpenEmbedded Workshop on Feb. 2 in Brussels. I will share my experience adding support for new boards.

Of course, this should help you build your own BSP layers, but the main goal is to incite people to contribute more MACHINEs to community BSP layers, which are where collaboration really happens.

First thing I did in 2026? Replace Ubuntu by Debian 13.

Here are my reasons:
- Have a distribution really backed by a community.
- Enjoy access to all updates, instead of being told to subscribe to a service.
- Get rid of snaps, opaque and disk space hungry containers storing your data in obscure locations.
- Gaining productivity by switching to a pure GNOME desktop,
- Stop supporting an organization that denigrates other open source projects, such as Yocto.

Debian is an operating system and a distribution of Free Software. It is maintained and updated through the work of many users who volunteer their time and effort.

The 5.3 version of @yoctoproject@fosstodon.org has been released today.

It comes a bit later than expected because of the introduction of the "bitbake-setup" tool and the termination of the "poky" repository as a combo layer.

I like Yocto's ability to introduce disruptive changes in newer versions. This is a good sign that the project is well alive and can still improve its core.

See the official manual for the full release and migration notes: https://docs.yoctoproject.org/dev/migration-guides/release-5.3.html
