A Russian post on how Telegram will stop working in Russia in the near future, according to the Duma. According to Oleg Matveychev, deputy chairman for information policy, the messenger is an “illegal” who works but doesn't pay taxes or comply with the laws. Therefore, it must be “deported”.

Russian milblogger Swodka is suggesting the need for a comprehensive peace treaty, as a method to get Ukraine to accept giving up territory.

This smacks of the increasing desperation of Russian milbloggers, as they see a need to find a "win" for Putin that Russians can stomach, rather than let the war keep playing out in a way they find increasingly unsuccessful. Many do not see a military path to victory, and hope that they can win through diplomacy what they are unable to win on the field.

Russian milblogger Swodki shares a story from Russian soldier German Sadulaev, warning that Ukraine is advancing in a way that could lead to "large-scale breakthroughs", by using overwhelming drone force and increased drone depth to isolate and bite off chunks of previously occupied territory.

This was where things were always leading, with one side controlling the drone space, and the other trapped in holes and basements.

Israel backtracks on previous "operational limitations" preventing mutual air defense deals with Ukraine... now apparently desperate for interceptor drones. (Sounds like they are running out of the expensive stuff.)
Numbers are currently limited... Charge them up the wazoo, license them to produce their own for a percentage of the drones being sent to Ukraine... Or tell them to get in line behind the Arab states.

I've seen so many complaints from Russians about how the government fscked their internet connectivity. Nobody real likes it, everyone expects it'll get worse. A comic showed everyone angrily yelling at their bricks instead of phones.

Meanwhile, people are paying for their internet, and not getting anything in return. Billions are being lost, simply due to business operating at the speed of pen & paper.

Lots of Russians would be pretty happy if Putin died, but their internet came back.

Russian milblogger says that Ukraine has 100km range FPV drones that Russia CANNOT copy.
This likely means those drone carriers that use Starlink. Also likely means that a certain part of the line REALLY can't combat / jam these drones, currently... which they'd normally deal with with EW.
So, they're completely vulnerable to these attacks, at the moment.
Probably need EW solutions that work vs. different parts of the radio spectrum, implemented discretely. Cat & mouse stuff.

During Iraq, I organized a community for US soldiers, contractors, NGOs... and so, for a few years, my friends list had a body count.

I don't want to wish death on any American soldier, but the fact remains that we, as a country, need to internalize some serious lessons about the nature of war, of reasonable limits to US power projection, and how diplomacy SAVES LIVES / $$$.

The fucked up bit is that the people who NEED to learn these lessons the most are the ones least capable of doing so.

Even within Iranian territory, it would be possible to use the existing cellular comms landscape to guide drones to targets, as Russia did before Ukraine started shutting off their access. It might not be as robust as Starlink, but "good enough" is pretty good, when you have 50KG of explosives to work with.

One of the handicaps of Iranian Shaheds is that they can only target a physical location, not a moving object. Importing Shaheds from Russia could fix this in short order, potentially.

I mean, I GUESS Starlink could create whitelists for all of the Gulf States, though with much bigger disruptions than in Ukraine, as they had some advance notice to register their terminals... though that likely wouldn't protect international waters, etc.

It wouldn't protect anywhere in Iran that the US wants to put their marines, however. You'd have to cut off all the Iranian activists from the outside world, basically... unless perhaps you cut off fast-moving Starlink terminals over Iran.

Did you know that Starlink has at least 30,000 working terminals in Iran... presumably with the ability to import a whole bunch from Russia that they can't use anymore?

Did you know that those terminals could be incorporated into Shahed drones, allowing them to guide 30-50KGs of explosives to moving targets by drone operators, operating from basically anywhere with connectivity, in real time?!

This seems like it could potentially be problematic for the US.

The obvious places to strike with thousands of Marines in Iran are the most likely to be mined and rigged to blow.
The less obvious places are easily mortared, dronebombed, and surrounded by a small yet utterly overwhelming percentage of a million Iranian soldiers. Any fissile material is easily dispersed ahead of time.

None of them are politically convincing targets for declaring victory and going home, especially if casualties are high.
Not the kind of war any American should want to die for.

In response to repeated attacks, and, in some cases, significant damage to facilities, the US has ordered the evacuation of numerous diplomats throughout the Middle East.
Parts of the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia were “unrecoverable” and must be sealed off after a drone attack... the “least-damaged” parts of the embassy may be habitable in a month, while in “more damaged” areas, such as the CIA station on the top floor, will take several months to recover.

Trump, who already looks weak because of his inability to have ANY role in Iran deciding who its leader is, now looks even weaker after his administration admitted that Israel went far beyond what they expected by attacking Iranian oil.

The attack will further reduce the global supply of oil, raising prices at the pumps while killing American jobs.

Just the idea that the Federal Government can compel states to completely remove EVERYONE from voter registration and force them to re-register under onerous, discriminatory means is wildly unconstitutional.

People don't get the Russian deficit.
For years, they HAD no deficit, due to how they budgeted.
Deficits are relative; impact varies on income & your credit.

When the US has a GDP of $29T, and a deficit of $1.8T, that's like a millionaire having $64K in debt, at a comfy 3.35% annual rate.
Whereas, if Rus. has a GDP of $2.2T and a VERY rapidly increasing deficit of $22B, that's like making $64K during a stagflation, with a $640 debt at 15% you can't afford to pay back, but can't cut from either.

I didn't know that InformNapalm wrote a report on how Elon Musk was using Starlink in ways that intentionally benefited the Russians, but definitely wanted to share it, so that people in the US especially have more of an idea of how long SpaceX knowingly profited on dead Ukrainians, while insulting foreign leaders and journalists insisting they take greater action to shut Starlink down for the Russians.
