Those who know me know I have long made the argument that hosting AI slop is a bad business model because viewers will not find it very interesting and leave.This video makes a great argument that even if there *is* a large audience for slop, that audience will STILL leave which is something I hadn't considered.
Honestly surprised Google would do something that makes an app less cluttered with crap!
I'm sure they'll still run plenty of AI scam ads of "Elon musk" pushing some crypto. But this is a start!

@cragsand@mastodon.social @nileane@nileane.fr Also there is essentially zero incentive for anyone to start an instance, since it's functionally just providing free hosting for BlueSky (the company).
My gut says they just wanted to start a traditional social media platform, but wagered that obfuscating the structure behind a "decentralized" protocol would give a veil of legitimacy.
It feels similar to how crypto is "decentralized" but also not really (It bears repeating that Graber and Dorsey are crypto fans).

Meta quite literally enabled genocide in Myanmar. The Fediverse may require a greater degree of personal responsibility but supporting those companies by encouraging one's following to go there is, IMO, morally contemptible.
