It is mostly because the bar is measured in time to display content (forgot the name of the metric)
So the huge about of bullshit gets hidden by fast internet and asynchronous jobs.

Notification about all replies to a post
Is there a way to receive notifications about all comments to a given post?
I am not sure if this is a Lemmy thing or a client app thing, but I think it would be a good feature.
Similarly receiving notifications about comment threads and not only replies to your comments.
