Haha, maybe, I've considered it. It happens so inconsistently though that I doubt anyone out here would do anything about it unless I'm willing to call them *every* time it happens. Which seems like so much more effort than just talking to them, which I should do. They've got a little clan going though (not kidding, like 8 kids and they're all homeschooled — it would be creepy if they all weren't so competent) so they're usually very busy, I almost feel bad interrupting them. They're also especially dead to the world at night, so even if they were aware they may not even be capable of doing anything about it. Idk, I won't harm the dog though lol — delirium and emotionally instablity tends to follow sleepless nights. The anger would never be actualized.

My neighbors dog hears a leaf fall in my yard in the middle of the night semi-frequently and just barks. For hours. They do nothing about it, they just let the dog sit outside and bark. I had never considered shooting a dog before that happened 7 or 8 times, going to be honest. Edit: to be clear, I would never actually harm my neighbors dog — when you're up til 5 in the morning because your neighbors won't control their animal... You won't be emotionally or mentally stable.

A few things:

1. Words mean individual words

Correct, we have another word called ‘letters’. As it pertains to this instance, when you take the letters of the word ‘apple’ and rearrange them alphabetically — they are no longer a word. Unless you would accept aelpp as a spelling of apple.

1. I sincerely doubt this is the first time this child has seen the term alphabetical order, I would be inclined to think the child is a clever smartass depending on the individual.

2. Either way, the situation is very simple to handle without breaking the childs self esteem.

‘I totally understand why you came to the conclusion you did, and you did write the letters in alphabetical order! However, the instructions say to ‘write the words in alphabetical order’. Try again, I bet you’ll get 100%!’

The child is most likely just wrong. Teaching them to think critically about their failures is not a problem. Treating them as if failure is some pit they need to forever keep from falling into definitely is, and not helping the child learn to navigate failure is infinitely more detrimental.

Edit: Nothing is more aggravating than being challenged by bleeding hearts who don’t have enough blood left for their brains. Especially when I take the time to break down why their misplaced empathy is wasted only to receive zero response. Cowardly behavior, truly — children will be left anxiety ridden and logically broken if exposed to your methods.

This is not a neurodivergent solution, this is simply incorrect — the instructions are clear. You can try to rationalize why it somehow is correct, you are also wrong.

The child did not prove that they know what alphabetical order is, they proved that they know the alphabet. This does not showcase intellect, it showcases a lack of critical thinking.
