I remember we had "smart home" stuff back in the 90s, it was all hard wired to our own server in the basement and had no outside access whatsoever.
Now people ask their spy device on the counter to ask Amazon's servers to lock their door and turn the light on while their wasahng machine assaults them with ads so they can start s new load.
This is *not* progress. It may all run faster, now, but it's worse in every ther way.
