@randomgeek @jplebreton there was one red flag that made me reconsider his human side/moral backbone: in the days of Quake-1, ID collaborated with Rendition to define what the hardware should look like; that's when he did a 180*: <<... Quake is not going to do Z-buffering.” ... And then halfway through Quake I said, “Well I changed my mind. We are using Z-buffering...>> Rendition V1100 not having (performant) z-buffering contributed to the company failure.

@yiningkarlli maybe because "thinking fast" is way cheaper energetically for us than "thinking slow". we're cutting the branch underneath our feet

@yiningkarlli but the graphing calculator output was reliable all the time, you didn't had to check it for correctness. my guess is that's why it was allowed only after the methods were assimilated/internalized.

@meowray@hachyderm.io I fed the first post to copilot and strangely, this part sounded quite differently "Last year was a turbulent year: the big labs cast their lines and handed out free credits to maintainers; the maintainers, deeply moved by such generosity, rushed forward to offer themselves up. " vs "Last year was full of drama: big companies lured maintainers with credits, and maintainers heroically responded by contributing en masse." It somehow sounds less sarcastic towards the "big companies".
