@PedestrianError @eq “boys are more likely to be beaten up by a bully” - are you not paying attention? The rate of femicide is staggering. Recently 2 women who worked together at a bank in Amsterdam were found murdered within a few days of each other. Everyone assumed there must be a connection. There was not. One was murdered by creepy guy hanging around train station, the other by her boyfriend. Many women spend years living with their bully unable to escape.

@mhoye if your only experience of wood is panels of compressed leftover bits that the cheapest furniture is usually made from, it kind of starts to make sense that trees are outrageous 😜

@ghard @reloadedhead @richlv @fj yeh, I always make a point of staring at them with a disgusted look on my face. Worst is these things in Amsterdam rush hour, when they go through the traffic lights even though there is no space to go on, and then block the crossing. Most cyclists at RAI crossing will bang on the side as they go past, but it’s necessary as they might move on as the traffic moves and won’t see us.

@justdude This is great! My kid goes to middelbare school in Amsterdam and they insisted that they only support windows or apple 😡😡😡 I sent them to school with a Linux mint laptop anyway and it’s been fine so far, so I will pass this along to the school and see if they can see the benefits for low income kids (and saving e-waste of course).

@j_bertolotti He wrote a book about how children brought up under the “civilising influence of British colonialism” would really behave. It was an anti-propaganda piece. He was right, but I don’t see how this says anything about human nature. Schools like Eton have a whole program to churn out boys who think the rest of us are weak for having emotions like caring for others, and the hazing rituals are similar to all that military crap that also intends to break down normal human empathy.

@j_bertolotti lord of the flies is a parody of how Eton boys (the ones that ran the world back then, and still do to some extent) would get along in a situation where they suddenly needed to collaborate to survive. I don’t believe he intended to say anything about real human nature.
