I see the oil sector is continuing to feel the squeeze from both the Russian war in Ukraine and the US/Israeli war in Iran, just like the rest of us. Oh wait... The only real - and widespread - benefit I've seen of the "adoption of AI" in companies is its ability to highlight exactly how little of what most organisations do to generate market value is actually in any way essential or coordinated by management. Those processes which actually are essential to the organisation, very few companies dare introduce AI into them for fear of fucking them up. And the amount of sudden capacity & funds found to push management's pet projects around AI proves that all the other previous "priorities" weren't really that much of a priority. Am I actively resisting AI adoption? Not really - otherwise someone else will be tasked with badly introducing these corporate slot machines. But am I breaking myself and working all hours for this fad? Naaaaah...

[Far too many people in today's western societies] "Why do we even still need Pride events? Those people aren't being persecuted anymore..." Errrmm... that's not quite true though, is it? There may be a tiny slither of legal acceptance (and even that is back-sliding in some countries), but culturally there are still many that think violence against LGBTQ+ is acceptable. This feels like an appropriate time to remind people in the UK and USA that it is entirely possible to simultaneously hold the view that wishing ill / death on someone is too far and wrong... But also that the loss of a particular person's voice (and the type of world that they advocate for) is something that does not require a tear to be shed.

"The best AI prompts aren't necessarily the most detailed - the best prompts are the clearest" Well, that's why AI is failing management then, isn't it? We've had years of being told that employees need to "handle ambiguity" because management have been crap at giving clear directions. AI is just reflecting that those instructions were always so crap and confusing... only now you don't have another person to blame it on.

I've said it before and I'll undoubtedly say it again - I may even get this carved into my grave when I die... AI usage is going to destroy people's ability to communicate and work with others. Why actually talk to the person in an organisation that is the expert on a particular system / the team who implemented that system and know how it's configured when you can just ask AI to give you a set of instructions that have no context about your org?

Someone the other day told me I'd make a "really good AI Security Consultant" I still don't know whether I should have taken that as a compliment or Klingon-headbutted them right there and then for insulting my honour. Also, I'm fairly certain all I've done is read several AI company's documentation pages (largely under protest I may add, but I was at least being paid to do it) - is that all that constitutes a consultant in the AI world?

So in this case, the victims of injustice are arguably not the students choosing to take out a loan and pay for college now, but the many people I went to school with who were never even offered a choice about whether to borrow and study at all.

Almost gave up reading on this line.

It's a bollocks line to say "more of you get to go to university, so it's only fair you're stiffed with the debt for the rest of your working lives while we got it for free"... if your generation had a hand in pushing the baseline up so that a degree was the minimum expected level, then you've still created the root cause.

I suspect many would happily skip university / find alternatives if it still meant they'd have a reasonable shot at a good life.

Trump is once again helping the unification of Europe and unraveling years of US foreign policy intent of ensuring other countries are reliant on the US defence industry.

Random InfoSec guy (mostly architecture) screaming at the world. Maybe a bit of running, politics and puns dotted in there too. Toots set to auto-delete after 30 days (for server space and so stuff doesn't come back to haunt me years later)

@randahl That'll be an interesting interpretation of NATO's Article 5.

If you're in a cybersecurity leadership role, with the advent of AI, you should panic.

Panic more than the panic you were already supposed to be feeling.

Even more panicking you were told to panic because others around you weren't panicking enough.

Additional panic on top of the panic you had from years of not solving the previous panic.

Greater panic because all the other things that were marketed as solving your previous panic has turned out not to abate that panic and, in fact, just increased the existing panic.

Panic now before it's too late to panic with what AI is going to do.

Oh and buy our product. Because this one will definitely solve your panic.

@randahl@mastodon.social The funding is expected to be distributed through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), a Pentagon-run mechanism that procures weapons directly from U.S. defense contractors for delivery to Ukraine. Support is good, but it also sounds suspiciously like certain USA lawmakers were concerned that Ukraine may be working themselves off their dependence on USA tech... and we can't have Ukraine not being reliant on US defence companies!

I like how the UK system finds it difficult to determine whether giving "£5m unconditional gift" to someone that has spent their life in politics and public image (mainly seen as someone to "rile up the establishment") is in anyway legally questionable or not...

Because my mates and I send me £5m all the time, no questions asked or strings attached (/sarcasm)

Nigel Farage received £5m from donor Christopher Harborne before he became an MP - BBC News

@GossiTheDog "WHY AREN'T THINGS MORE SECURED!?" screams the senior management as they dump more AI-generated, vulnerability-laden Crap-as-a-Service into the organisation's tech stack.

@malwaretech I liked the days when we were panicking about China listening in on all our telephone calls / scooping up our mobile data. Now we just talk directly to some American company's AI and ask them to diagnose our medical problems that we're too embarrassed to see a real doctor for.

@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange You mean that the dinner that Trump has historically avoided (after having a national sense of humour failure at one many years ago) just happened to be interrupted / he could get rushed away from... By an "assassination attempt" - which is a well-known tactic by certain foreign actors to increase support for failing politicians prior to a notable election - which happens in a location / way that can be used as supposed-justification for one of his gaudy vanity projects? What was on the menu for the dinner? Because something definitely smells fishy.
