On my walk this afternoon I spotted a Turkey Vulture, and as I recorded this observation in Merlin Bird ID I noticed that they are hiring a Python machine learning engineer https://jobs.hr.cornell.edu/us/en/job/WDR-00051454 Could be a fun job for the right person!

@jasonkarns@indieweb.social The old joke was "I don't need a backup service; I just use the NSA," but this idea is a bit lacking in the "DR test plan" area.

RE: @arstechnica@mastodon.social

This is particularly galling because iOS, unlike Android, has no notification history feature. So past notifications were available to the cops, but not to end users

"AI is often incorrect!" is not a useful framing. A useful framing is a confusion matrix, plus the ability to exclude false positives (e.g., with constraints). The same as any linter. Then you can judge the usefulness.

Um, wow. Man accidentally gains access to cameras and microphones inside 7000 people's houses while trying to vibe code a controller. DJI, this is not a good look. https://www.popsci.com/technology/robot-vacuum-army/

@annierau Chuck Shepherd, who published News of the Weird for decades, and a recurring list called “No longer weird” of old stories he had run before which he had now been able to determine happened with such frequency that they could not be fairly called “weird.”
