I wonder if that's true. Two generations after his death, people are likely to remember the brands and buildings that still bear his name and assume he was a Good Guy.
In the same way that people do with, say, Edison, Ford and Rockefeller today. Rather than as the monstrous pieces of shit they were.

Have you seen the apt sources list that CW generates on boot? It's semantics. 😊

Agree, though calibre-web exists and runs in a single Docker container. I've been using it for a few years, and it's great.
Sure its a whole Linux server under the hood _just_ to run Calibre and the services required to give it a web interface and API for reading apps - making it _way_ bigger than it needs to be - but it does the job.

SmartTube is pretty good on AndroidTV: SponsorBlock, DeArrow, no ads, etc.
At least while we’re still able to sideload… 😔

Sure it does. It lets them smile and say, “We did tell you. But you chose to do nothing.” Probably even while you’re grieving at the recent of your child or loved one.
As always, when it comes to the intersection of techbros, threats of legislation and society, this is about making their problems and decisions your responsibility. Politicians fall for it every time, because they love “personal responsibility” rhetoric, and Number Must Go Up continues as before.

Remember when everyone used to say that competition breeds innovation? 😖
Turns out that’s nowhere near as shareholder-friendlyprofitable as consolidation, monopoly and micro-iteration.
Looking forward to all public US companies being a subsidiary of the Amazon-Walmart-Disney mega-conglomerate in 20 years or so…

I certainly see the appeal of being able to make it avoid certain areas. Sounds better than arranging furniture or using those little battery-powered outposts to repel the Roomba (can’t remember what they’re called).
But, for me, I don’t see that outweighing the risks of cloud dependencies (and the inevitable expiration date).
Even assuming a solid internet connection, reliable cloud service and perfect software updates, you may still only get a year or two out of it before they decide to yank it or make it a subscription service. The last decade or so of shitty manufacturer behaviour has permanently jaded me, I think… 😅

I’ve had a dumb Roomba (560? 650?) for years. The worst they can do is stop making replacement batteries and brushes available, and there’s plenty of third-party alternatives.
Who buys a smart device when a dumb one is available and does the job just as well. 🤷♂️
