Whenever I've seen anyone say something to the tune of "I see genAI like calculators etc." they continue to make it clear they have severely limited to no understanding of:

Tools, both conceptually and in practice; history; tech especially tech companies; how tools and tech are refined and improved; pattern recognition; all possible combinations of above.

And those all are shown with the "genAI is in the exploratory phase" line they always vomit.
Tools are either useful or they're not tools.

I think I have finally found the core of why I don't get along with chess or chess like "one move per turn" maneuvering games:

They're basically two person adversarial sliding block puzzles to me.

I do not like sliding block puzzles and giving similar vibes in an adversarial context is just making it worse.

Shogi for some reason gives a milder SBP feeling, but I can't tell if it's milder by enough to matter to me.

I have learned that I'm surprisingly good at recognising specific kanji, hanja and Chinese characters. But only as long as they're in regular script.

Once they're in cursive my brain just refuses to interprete them and goes "squiggles".
I'm sure this is lack of experience, since I remember not being able to "take apart" logograms in any language when I was young.

But also part of it is just that cursive in any language is mostly, if not entirely, "just squiggles" to me.

I also checked out janggi, the Korean variant of xiangqi. I don't know if there's a digital version for it so I haven't tested it against a CPU but at a glance it's a mixed bag.
Wikipedia has details, but I think I would prefer the changes to the Cannon, Soldier and Palace rules, except for the added rules overhead for the Palace movement.

I have a bad habit of wanting to buy classical board games like backgammon, reversi or chess despite not wanting to play any of them.
The worst ones for me have been xiangqi and shogi because both seemed like more interesting types of chess at first glance.

Well today I found out FreeBSD has both in the PKG system so I've had a couple of games against CPU opponents.

First thing I learned was that thinking of them as "Chinese / Japanese chess" is deeply inaccurate.

@Remittancegirl And Google of course just responded with a marketing snippet and a hollow form response. "Sure you got branded as a nonce, but we might use it to 'improve' our lying machine's output." Not even a non-binding vague promise to do better. As others here I think Google should be losing way more than 1.5 million them to actually take it seriously, but I wouldn't be shocked if there were pragmatic legal reasons why you wouldn't even ask for more.

@controlc @jpalmer In Finland these sort of people have claimed public healthcare doesn't work, using Swiss and Japanese as examples, while pushing for a system that's closer to those than the current one we have. (I.e. privatising all hospitals and paying those to treat people under public healthcare.) All the while claiming the US system "is actually cheaper for the average person" when every study has shown the opposite. These thieves treat "truth" the way most people treat silverfish.
