This game creeped me the fuck out in the early 90's. Something about the weird brother guys being trapped inside books and giving you cryptic messages through static made it feel like a horror game to me.

@grizzlywhisker@nicecrew.digital I liked it as a contrast to the nice atmospheric outdoors environment, and the cool indoors architecture. It's how you know something is still going wrong, you aren't just walking through an idyll solving ancient mysteries.
Also the brothers get more crazy as you talk to them, letting you know not to trust either. You didn't need a journal entry, or a protagonist musing "hmm I don't trust that guy" out loud.

I have not played Myst in probably 30 years, but I remember the one brother (I think the red one) tries to trick you into completing his book instead of the other one or something and I think they had different endings. It was definitely unique and innovative for the time, I miss when PC had high IQ games like Myst/Riven. I was big into King's Quest and Space Quest back in the day, that whole genre of games is largely dead.
