your body has an implicit system of telling you how long it has been since you last shaved your armpits but it degrades in accuracy over longer periods of time.

I understand why everyone uses Hindley Milner at this point. It doesn’t get in the way at all, it doesn’t care if your types are pure or effectful or if there are different kinds of effects, it just cares about unifying types and it’s so fucking good at it.

so for low level byte manipulation, I’ve renamed “val” to “mut” and I now have five runtime intrinsics to help; bytes_create, bytes_set, ref, deref, assign. These primitives carry effects, so they can be used anywhere but they carry with them other runtime expectations, potentially the garbage collector. but. BUT. if I can tree-shake the garbage collector, I do.

yeah, the president and literally everyone with enough power to manipulate power are child rapists being strung along by voluntary honeypotting by the single most unethical intelligence agency in the world. but if you stare long into the abyss, the abyss stares back. I think Terry Davis had it right, hard as it has been to break eye contact with that abyss: you do the work you need to do, and you will feel good about it. Everything else, now back in my own words, is just sophistry. What the fuc...

wish me luck: I am about to refactor my entire compiler to use macros, and pass that through the bootstrapped compiler. The compiler itself needs to be the tests for complex macros, moreso than even the tests.

I’ve almost gotten the fragmented compiled universe built out. so, there’s nothing saying that an application can’t buffer out space for more code, and then jump to that code, right? So… no VM. the repl is a hot universe of my compiler, and it will compile the session in fragments, append them to the world, and then jump to them; a new “generation” of the session. the bootstrap was really really cool to me. But at a certain point I might have stepped into the realm of smalltalk and other “this...
