Tumult macOS Plugin Announcement #mastodon #tumult #zsh If you're using a Mac, check out https:// github.com/unixorn/tumult.plugin.zsh It's a collection of scripts I've accumulated over the years that lets you control some of your Mac's behavior from the CLI. You don't need a ZSH framework to use it - the framework code just adds the repo's bin directory to your $PATH automatically. If you're not using a framework, add it's bin d...

Periodic reminder for people interested in #HomeAssistant There is a @homeassistant@fedigroups.social bot that replaces the old gup.pe home assistant bot. Mention it in your homeassisitant posts and it will boost them. Follow it to see all the #homeasistant posts it boosts that may not normally get federated to your instance. There’s also @homeassistant@tagpush.app - follow that and it will automatically boost everything you post with #homeassistant without you having to remember to mention t...

Every time I update my United credentials I get irritated by their #infosec incompetence. The security questions require you to pick answers only from a dropdown menu. It barely even qualifies as checkbox security. What other incompetence is hiding behind the scenes?

Found this nice tui for kubernetes this weekend - https://github.com/janosmiko/lfk One of the things I like about it is that it has #argocd specific logic - you can use it to alter argo settings and do other things you might otherwise do with the argocd command line tool Looks pretty neat, especially for #homelab @homelab #k8s users #sre #devops #k8s #kubernetes #k3s #talos

4th Generation Shelly security issue https://troypoint.com/smart-home-flaw-lets-hackers-open-your-garage-door/ TL;DR - 4th generation Shelly devices are leaving their 'Shelly' WIFI AP on that's used for initial configuration, even after they've been configured to join your real WIFI network. Anyone can join it and issue commands to the device, like opening your garage door. @homeassistant #homeassistant #smarthome #iot

Upgraded Home Assistant from 2026.2.2 to 2026.3.3 last night and it stopped reading the status of my zigbee devices via MQTT. I'm running HAOS in a proxmox VM and zigbee2mqtt 2.1.1 in a docker container hosted in a different physical with a ConBee2 radio. To check connectivity issues I had the integration listen for # and saw state updates for my zigbee sensors. What finally fixed it was going into zigbee2mqtt's settings and disabling and re-enabling Home Assistant integratio...

Periodic reminder - I'm maintaining the Internet of Trash list - https://github.com/unixorn/internet-of-trash/. This is a list of devices to avoid with the reason why - typically companies like Chamberlain that lock out local control or put it behind a paywall. If you've found a device that sucks, please make a PR or an issue about it so I can update the list. @homeassistant #homeAssistant #iot

Yet another reason to not enable passkeys anywhere. https://blog.timcappalli.me/p/passkeys-prf-warning/ TL;DR - If an idiot website uses your passkey to encrypt your data, losing/deleting the passkey will almost certainly mean losing your data. Of course we should all be backing up our stuff locally instead of trusting cloud services, especially for irreplaceable things like pictures and movies, but lets be real, the average user doesn't. #dataloss #passkey #passkey_security #datahoa...

@thegibson This is the way. After we remodeled our kitchen, all the new appliances had wifi options. salesman said "You can control the temperature settings of your fridge/preheat your oven when you're on your way home. It's so convenient" Super convenient for the jackass black hat who decides to defrost every BRANDNAME fridge in North America for the lolz. Or worse, turns on every oven. #smarthome #smart_appliances

@thegibson @cyanautik I act with the assumption that all #IOT devices will never get firmware updates, so I won't get anything that isn't controllable locally. Where possible I'll reflash devices with #ESPHome because that gets updates. Always remember that the two S-es in IOT stand for security and support.
