(sigh) If you were wondering like me if the #XFCE folks use LLM code generators or not.... well the dude working on their wayland compositor just removed all doubt; by posting their justification on using LLM code to their blog. I would recommend folks not pile on the guy in his comments section or anything. Just take note, and choose software or not according to your internal policy on such things. #FlOSS #AntiAI

Has anyone been able to pull up anything off #OpenClipart lately beyond the homepage?

Started re-reading Carl Sagan's "Demon Haunted World" the other night; really stopping and pausing on the opening bits where it discusses what happens when societies systemically discard science, critical thinking and skepticism. It really helped me articulate something Ive been struggling with. THIS. Our present. Reality here NOW. This is what it feels like to enter a dark age. That is what we are doing. #uspol #books

You can always trust #Linus Torvald and the #Linux Foundation, to side with big business w/ the linux kernel. It is why the kernel is GPLv2 instead of GPLv3; and why the Linux Foundation doesn't really believe in GPL enforcement. They will both be full steam on LLMs until it no-longer suits big business to be full steam on LLMs. #FreeSoftware

You know; I realize these corporations, are fundamentally corporations; and their not going to liberate the source to anything that has a chance of actually competing with their that has a chance of competing with their modern offerings. BUT like, DOS 4.0, and now... Comic Chat? Instead of giving us the dregs, how about some stuff that ... would actually have some folks interested in toying around with the software? Like Windows 3.1 ? Xenix ? Early Visual C++ or Visual Basic ? Chip's Chall...

I think a lot about how the Ellison family has both destroyed all the good things created by Sun Microsystems AND canceled all modern Star Trek. Like the Ellison's are just an inter-generational set of bastards who will go out and squash the things I specifically enjoy. Is this connected in anyone else's brains? OR am I a weirdo? #capitalism #EatTheRich

MX Linux is a fine debian derivative with a dev by the name anticapitalista on the core team. Anticapitalista runs another debian derivative antiX which they brand officially as anti-fascist. Just saying if your looking for #Debian or #Ubuntu alternatives, or distros where systemd is optional they might be worth checking out.

RE: https://social.coop/@cwebber/116426152872895154 Christine Lemmer-Webber as per usual really articulated well, something ive been trying to say much less elegantly. (Conclusion quoted here beginning of the sub-thread here: https://social.coop/@cwebber/116426025287444979 ) My fear is with these few possible realistic outcomes: The output of AI is a derivative work of the training data. LLM generated code containing near-verbatim copies of others code is legally unusable. The output of AI cod...

Pivot to AI : This spell will affect any single person or mammal it is cast upon who is either a member of the investor class, or works in a bank. The creature then will regard the caster of the spell as a trusted friend and ally to be heeded and protected, and will occasionally hand them small sacks of gold and jewls. The spell does not enable the caster to control the charmed creature as if it were an automaton, but any word or action of the caster will be viewed in its most favorable way. Th...

Apparently Peter Thiel / Palantir posted a "95 Thesis" of sorts on twitter. I got linked to it here: https://twitter-thread.com/t/2045574398573453312 It's fascist clap-trap of course. All of it. I did find article one interesting because I initially agreed with the very first bit of it. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. It is interesting though, that they don't conclude however, that they therefore must pay more taxes, or embrace...

The HAIKU community has taken the interesting approach of not only banning AI, code from the project. But segregating discussion of LLM-tainted software alongside proprietary software to it's own separate forum category. #haiku #haikuos #beos https://discuss.haiku-os.org/t/changes-to-forum-rules-categories-for-llm-generated-content/19103

@AverageDog Just finished reading Hyper-7 and I really enjoyed it. It took a bit for the story to really grip me; but the big ideas and world building consistently intrigued, and by the time I got to the last half of the story, I had trouble putting it down. Hoping to read more fiction from you.

I wish there was a bounty or something I could contribute to getting #FreeBSD up and running w/ hardware support on some of the SOCs used by #MNT. I don't have the skills to contribute to such an effort myself, but desperately want to see it happen. #BSD #MNTReform #MNTPocketReform

@platymew@layer8.space Oh man, I was a BeOS user at the time of the United States v. Microsoft Corp case. AND YEAH they basically salted the earth and razed the villages of anyone who was challenging their OS/browser/OEM hegemony at the time.
