My #recipe for #vegan Cornish pasties: pastry: 500g flour, 120g vege Atora, 1tsp salt, 175ml water, 25g marg filling (1cm^3 pieces): 350g potato, 200g swede, 175g onion, 1tsp stock powder, 1tbsp nooch, lots of black pepper, (optional fake meat, beyond burger, etc) Form pastry into a dry(ish) dough, work for 5mins until smooth, roll into 4 dinner plate sized circles, add filling, fold in half and crimp (on the side) Brush with oat milk + a little salt, bake for 45mins at 175C. Ansum! #cornwall

The heroes in teams aren't the ones pulling all-nighters, gambling big and saving everyone at the last minute. They're the ones who put in the work every day to stop those situations arising in the first place.

Comparing actual photograph with the promotional shot for Attenborough's new series. The man is 99 years old and still doing amazing work, can't we celebrate that instead of AI airbrushing him?

A while back I switched from iTerm to #Ghostty but I've missed being able to instantly launch a set of splits pre-setup for a project. On Mac, it can now all be setup from the shell using AppleScript https://gist.github.com/ringtailsoftware/1cc91e3b1346c2cc15ca5b2b51c14056

Little Snitch (app aware firewall for MacOS) is great, but has a terrible failure mode. Every time I do a major OS upgrade, its network extension no longer works and defaults to silently dropping all network traffic until forcibly uninstalled. This confuses me every time.

Spider Dijon (c. 2017), fondly remembered, though he was a total bastard. He once stood off against a horse, enjoyed leaping at passing runners in the woods and took every opportunity to piss on people's beds. #catsofmastodon

As a parent, every new casual conversation goes something like this: "Have you spawned yet?", "Yes". "How many times have your younglings travelled around the sun?", "15 and 12 loops, respectively". "What shaped genitals do they have?", "WTF dude!?". Please don't request gender identification of strangers, it's just weird.

Plug for "commy" my serial terminal emulator tool. This has been my daily driver for monitoring serial devices for 2yrs now. Does everything I need minicom/screen for and features rewind and fastforward instead of scrollback. https://github.com/ringtailsoftware/commy (This year, I should port to #zig 0.16 and libghostty...)

I believe LLMs today are (mostly) laundered plagiarism and some GenAI companies are fencing reconstituted thefts. And, every day I ignore ethical problems in order to get what I want, where I believe my ends justify the means. Sometimes knowingly, sometimes not. We live in a world where we all have to balance these choices all of the time. I think it's just as absurd to say "AI is ethically sound" as "AI has no valid uses"

The idea that appreciation for the natural world is somehow diminished by the reductive nature of science is like saying that learning to play every note in your favourite song will make you enjoy it less.
