We need to invent a new term, similar to "Milkshake duck" for belatedly discovering something was LLM slop after you've already enjoyed it.

Bodged some lighting into my home-made 3d printer enclosure. I had some white LED strip from my old office, so I zip-tied it to a length of wood and screwed it in there. Now I don't need to shine a torch in through the window to see how the print is going. The only slight bummer is that when the printer is running there is a slight flicker in the lighting caused by the print bed heater PWM. It's not too bad.

52 solder joins later and all of the button clusters are wired up. I used network patch leads so the end that terminates to the microcontrollers can be a regular old RJ45 socket. I used a 2x13 multiplex system to save on microcontroller inputs.

Me, to child: You shouldn't ask chatgpt for information, you should search the internet. Research is an important skill. Their search results: Almost entirely LLM-written pseudo-information. Fucking sigh. The internet keeps finding new ways to suck. How much is a paper encyclopaedia these days? #whinge #llm #chatgpt

Now that I'm finally free of mega-series of books (Aubrey-Maturin, Horus Heresy) I'm able to graze on books from my backlog. I really enjoyed "There is No Antimemtics Division" by qntm, now I'm onto "Juice" by Tim Winton. So far it seems a lot like "The Road" lite. The Road harrowed me good, I hope Juice is bit easier on the 'ole psyche. #qntm #books #reading

Are you serious, Microsoft? Can I really not cut and paste, or otherwise reference/transfer, a table from excel-on-sharepoint into word-on-sharepoint? It just pastes in as unformatted plaintext. C'mon, this is a core feature. #microsoft #excel

I would like to install an AC EVSE in our carport so we can charge our EV faster than 1.5kW. There's a good spot on a 180mm square wooden post in the corner, however I'd like to avoid messy surface conduits to provide the power. I'm now trying to work out a way of core-drilling a cable run from the top of the post through to the mounting height of the EVSE. I just need a lathe with a spindle bore of 260mm...

You are not immune to being scammed. Today I was half a second away from tapping a link in an SMS that was informing me I need to renew my credit card details because my CC was expiring. My CC IS expiring this month. I updated my CC details on two other services yesterday. Through sheer dumb luck the scammer happened to bait their hook correctly. I must not be complacent. Complacency is the opsec-killer. Complacency is the little death that brings identity theft. #scam #opsec #infosec

Can web developers stop fucking with scroll bars please? No website is so beautiful that it justifies losing the ability to see how far the page scrolls down. I don't give two shits about your design vision.

Looking for some #linux help: I'm cross-compiling an out-of-tree #wireguard kernel module to backport to an older v4.9 system. During compilation I get a "WARNING: Symbol version dump ./Module.symvers is missing; modules will have no dependencies and modversions." warning, and when I try to insmod the .ko file, I get "no symbol version for module_layout". If I include Module.symvers (from matching linux-headers) the Wireguard build excludes the compat...

I made a making-of video for the infuriating birthday puzzle "gift" I made for a friend recently. I had a lot of fun making it! I've linked the recipient's solve videos in the description. Good times. https://youtu.be/bmd3VXuNIAY #metalworking #machining

Some rotten cuntery from Roblox: Youngest played a game and earned enough in-game currency to buy a helicopter. When he tried to use the helicopter he learned he needed to spend real life currency to actually fly it. Absolutely fucked behaviour. Lower than a snake's belly.

Does anyone have any suggestions for changes to my #Kerbal Space Program control panel before I hit "go" on the laser cutter? The grid in the top left are direction selectors. I'm using knockoff cherry blue keyswitches for all the buttons. The dock/maneuver switch is 3-position. The 3-axis joysticks have a button on top for controlling trim. #ksp #diy #kerbalspaceprogram

My first pass at the layout of my #kerbal space program controller! Not completely happy with it, but a good place to start. Gotta print all the keycaps with red highlights on a black background. I want to replace the knob on the throttle slider, it's a yucky yellow. I'm not looking forward to the million wires this is going to take to hook up.

Haha! Victory over the night-time low-battery smoke detector intermittent beeping. The battery voltage was so close to the threshold it would only start beeping when the temperature dropped low enough. We have 10 smoke detectors in this house. I had to apply a binary search to locate the one emitting a beep once every 30 seconds, while trying to will my brain to stay asleep.

Noooo I cooked the curry too hard and the coconut milk has split. Dangit. I have some frozen cubes of coconut cream. I'll see if they can rescue it.

The massaman was a total success. Everyone loved it. It was still great despite the coconut milk splitting. Needed some naan or something for mopping up the plate afterwards. I made double quantity for lunch packs.

I've had the same socket set for 15 years. I've used it a lot and never lost any of it. I'm tired of pretending this is weird. "Haha 10mm socket amirite" NO. Take care of your tools, damnit.
