Most interesting: grade 2 and 2.5 are virtually identical (except that grade 2 is denser). Grade 1.5 and 2 have virtually the same calculated ER. Is this due to the high-CRI LED I&#39;m using instead of an incandescent? The no-filter curve would do interesting, possibly attractive, things to gamma. Next weekend, if I have time: check split-grade...

#photography #filmphotography #darkroom I did a series of split-grade density test strips. I tried grade 00 at 20 seconds, plus grade 5 at 5, 7.1, 10, 14.1, 20, 28.3 and 40 ses (half-stop sequence). The results are interesting. You get a range of &quot;paper grades&quot; from about 0 to about 3, but with much different toes (highlight separation is increased) and shoulders (shadow separation is reduced), compared to the base curves.

Following up on the curves I posted earlier, I had Claude write Python to turn the S curves into Photoshop-style curves, and animate them from softest to hardest. The results were not what I expected -- not at all a &quot;smooth&quot; evolution from first to last. I played some with a Dektronics Printalyzer Densitometer, a step wedge, and Fomapan 100. This is, essentially, the BTZS testing originated by Phil Davis. I ran into two probs: reciprocity for the film exposure, and really exaggerated temperature sensitivity (much more than generic tables would lead you to believe). These are not controlled as tightly for 20C as they should be, but useful data. #photography #filmphotography 1/
