Someone is postering on WGTN Kelburn campus for submissions for a new publication called "The Acropolis" based around "The Freedom Of Speech". Not a VUWSA registered club (I checked this morning). Posters in multiple versions, all in FSU colours. https://www.instagram.com/theacropolisvuw/ / https://sites.google.com/view/theacropolis-submission #FSU #FreeSpeechUnion #NZPol

I've got slides for an up coming talk I'm going, a complete beginners guide to linked data for librarians. Where are the cool kids putting slides these days? Still slideshare.com? [I don't care so much about being cool, mainly about people being able to find the slides.]

Please take a moment to pause this #wikimania and realise that wiki was just fine before the #WMF and will almost certainly continue to be fine after the #WMF Forks are hard because negotiating common cause with other folks is hard, but we need to be negotiating common cause anyway. If your common cause is not being reflected by WMF leadership and paid staff, have a think about why that might be.

It looks like New Zealand is going to abolish their media regulator, the Broadcasting Standards Authority. This will inevitably give the far right, liars, scammers and politicians a much looser connection with the truth. As citizens we can turn to web archiving to preserve evidence of perceived shenanigans. Go to https://web.archive.org/save/ to push a web page to archive.org. Works less well with social media and web applications than standalone websites. You can also drop a line to the N...

en.wiki is having another new pages backlog drive, to check the quality of newly created pages. If you're a wikipedia editor and you're interested in maintaining the quality of the encyclopedia as a whole, you may be interested in participating. Requires the New Page Patroler right, but that's not usually an issue for established editors. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:New_pages_patrol/Backlog_drives/May_2026 #wikipedia
