  I think I dislike "unpalatably-strong dish balanced by a large amount of bland grain" as a culinary style, as is common in Chinese cuisine. They don't balance for me, I just taste bland grain (yum) and unpalatably strong dish (ew) side by side. Or I'm bad at the cuisine and making it too strong. But I mostly followed the proportions for Chinese Cooking Demystified's recipe for ghost-fire green and found it waaaayyy too strongly herby.
