  ok, I think I'm done with this project? it now plays conway's game of life and creepy noises, all from a single STM32G431 MCU with minimal external components, which is really all you can want from some lowfi analogue TV stuff. In the process of making the audio work I ended up changing from channel 2 to channel 3 to get rid of the interference from the 48MHz clock I use for audio, which also means I'm running the CPU faster and get a little bit more processing time.   anyone here has any experience doing remote debugging on ARM devices using Gram/Zed? I've been using cortex-debug in VSCode before but there is no such thing for Gram yet. I tried setting things up manually but had no real success. I can get GDB to connect to OpenOCD but I can't get it to automatically reset the device and upload the new binary. Giving GDB a file with startup commands just makes Gram lock up when starting the debug session.

  spending some more time improving the quality of the RF output from the tinyvision library. there were some unexplained weirdnesses and nonlinearities before (what a surprise, turns out micro controllers are not meant to generate RF) which should be fixed now, leading to an *even better* image and more stable sync!

  Ran a bit of a long term test with my VTR to see if it's stable and I was able to record around 17 minutes before it started losing sync again. Ugh… So either the drum speed is slowly drifting as it warms up, or the camera frame rate is slowly drifting, or the load on the motor increases as we get towards the end of the tape, or it's something completely different… I should probably repeat that test with a quartz locked camera to at least mostly rule that out as the source of th...

  Did you know that you can buy these funky little "flat" CRT displays on aliexpress for like 25 bucks? They run on 12V and take composite video input. Not sure what I'm gonna do with it yet but I'm tempted to create some kinda handheld game thing? Or a scientific calculator? Imagine how cool a little RPN calculator running forth or something would be!
