Had my closest friend over last night. It’s perhaps the least urgent of all problems, but we talked about how middle age, for family men like us, is a new phase in life, and needs to be approached as such. The most urgent needs are addressed, and the big decisions are taken. Now we need to decide what we’re going to do with the rest of our lives. It’s a solvable problem. But if we act like the solution will come by itself, we’re asking for trouble.

Yay! I've finally got my little Raspi Zero set up as a webserver, reachable from the internet. I've even managed to enable https (LetsEncrypt being awesome as usual). Now, er... it looks like I need to start thinking about a use case 🙃

Erfreuliches aus dem ländlichen Oberbayern: Gestern Schulabschlussfeier für eins unserer Kinder. Schulleitung, Lokalpolitik, viel Tracht und Lederhosen. Ganz normale Leute, von „schon immer hier“ bis „noch nicht lange da“. Eine der Jahrgangsbesten nahm ihre Auszeichnung stolz im Kopftuch entgegen. In ihren Reden haben alle durchgehend gegendert. Und die Mitschülerin aus Kenia hat eventuell mehr fürs Englisch-Niveau der Klasse getan als der Unterricht.

It’s been a hectic day, and I’m tired and a little stressed. But I need to remind myself that the main reason I’m stressed is that a) I spent last weekend kayaking with the kids; and b) that I will spend all of next week taking a freestyle #whitewater #kayaking course on the Soča river. So it’s a nice problem to have.
