  App review times are painfully long right now, even for iOS app updates. I’ve had updates for brrr and Jayson waiting since Sunday and Monday, respectively, and they’re still waiting. In the past many years, reviews were usually completed within a few hours or maybe a day. The current situation reminds me of the review times when I started iOS development 17 years ago, when waiting a week for review was completely normal. Apple needs to fix this.

  I’m working on a new Shortcuts-focused tool. It’s not like Scriptable, but it plays in the same space. I’m still wrapping my head around the idea, but I’m incredibly excited. Looking forward to sharing more and hearing if it makes sense to anyone but me 😄

  Still a few somewhat big features left before I can release this project. Payments is one of them. I think this will be my first subscription app. My guess is it’ll require a non-negligible amount of changes and testing with every major iOS release, and to make that sustainable, subscriptions feel like the right model. Looking forward to diving into the subscription APIs in StoreKit… though I’ve heard they can be a bit daunting 😅

  I’m in the market for a new TV and honestly, it’s annoying that I can’t just buy a non-smart one with a good picture and decent audio. I’m always using either my Apple TV or Switch 2. I don’t need apps or any other “smart” features. Just give me a decent screen with HDMI CEC and ARC.

  I was interested in a car and called because the listing didn’t add up. It turned out the listing was incorrect. The seller blamed AI for generating it. If a company excuses mistakes by pointing to AI, they aren’t ready to rely on it. You can’t blame AI, because it can’t take responsibility. Own the mistake. Using AI shouldn’t be an excuse to lower the bar of your product.

  The internet has changed. Not for the better. A big part of it used to be linking between sites. Ideas and information connected. Now the biggest platforms downrank anything that sends you away. Headlines used to inform. Now they’re just clickbait. It used to feel like a place for human creativity and shared knowledge. Now it’s increasingly just computer generated content. Feels like we’ve engineered ourselves into a corner where the internet is no longer the information hub we need.

  Shipping critical alerts in brrr feels like a bigger milestone than expected. Not because it was a lot of work, but because I’d more or less given up on it. My first request for the Critical Alerts entitlement got rejected before launch, so I shelved it. Then I tried again recently with a clearer user story and got approved yesterday. Pretty excited to finally ship it.

The root cause is unclear, but I occasionally see DNS-related errors in the widget’s network traffic.   Modern data plans still count MBs, but for most people, day-to-day usage feels unlimited. Soft limits and throttling exist, but they’re mostly invisible. AI will likely follow the same pattern. A subscription that feels unlimited. That’s why I’m not spending much time optimizing token usage. My time is better spent building. The pricing will sort itself out.
