  A visitor turned around after we showed her the chickens. She pointed and asked "what tree is this?" Our oldest kale, going on five years, got a serious pruning, down to main trunk and some branch stubs. The diameter of the main "stem" is just under 3 inches, pretty much the same as our six year old white peach tree. Grow perennial kale if you can, my friends. #kale #perennial #vegetable #gardening

  That was a harsh weekend: cold with several inches of rain, mostly with thunderstorms. The weather service was not kidding when they warned of the potential of "weak tornadoes".   Fun small town life, aka. I can't believe it's not communist. 😉 Checking out the front yard, a car pulls up. It's D, and before I know it he approaches with an arm full of cartons. And a big smile. Seven dozen gifted eggs. We'll give a bunch to neighbors and keep a dozen or two. And it all started because D figured out a few years ago why the empty lot he takes care of for an absent relative was no longer full of trash. #smalltown #community #eggs #neighbors

  Transplanted the struggling tiny banana tree to a better spot, and it is bouncing back already. Finished the temporary home for the new chickens with shade cloth to have both shade for them and to keep them in. Transferred some guppies from the aquarium to the mini pond/waterhole for mosquito control. Now we just need to arrange some comfy spots under the big apricot tree to doze in easy reach of the fruit, okay, just kidding, no rest for the wicked. #gardening #plants #chickens
