I likely comes as no surprise that at least some EV charging infrastructure has been rolled out with laughably bad security. The fact that someone could probably cause significant damage to the local power grid or plant malware for future vehicles connected with very little real effort is wild, especially since many chargers are in only minimally protected public spaces. It’s like being able to stick in a specially formatted debit card and suddenly have full access to a bank’s entire internal...

While discussing hardware prices with a friend today, I looked up the hard drives I bought back in February out of curiosity. They are currently almost twice as expensive as what I paid. Which was twice as expensive as they were in October when I originally thought about buying them. 400% price increase in 7 months.

Contact your close family and friends TODAY and agree on a safe-word for situations like this. Make sure they require the safe word before any money changes hands or other serious decisions are made. https://sfist.com/2026/05/26/local-woman-bilked-out-of-thousands-after-scammers-clone-daughters-voice-with-ai/

I remember hearing discussion about this while I was in Amsterdam a few weeks ago, there was certainly discontent among locals about the potential deal. More actions like this please. The world should be rich with independent and local companies and tech. Centralized control and ownership only ever serves the centralized owner and actively harms everyone else. https://www.politico.eu/article/netherlands-blocks-us-takeover-vital-digital-supplier/

RE: https://mastodon.social/@Daojoan/116649615915296910 I’ve long had simmering thoughts about the damage to society that cheap, ubiquitous… everything has caused, by way of the internet. Yes, affordable access to lots of things is important. But the waste generated by making things too cheap and single-use oriented is a cancer. Coupled with having a million options for any given purchase, and price becomes the driving differentiator because who doesn’t want to save a few bucks.

Free project idea: a TV show review site, with a simple rating scale to signal how “safe” a show is to watch based on plot continuity. 🟢 The series is concluded naturally with no unplanned cliffhangers. 🔵 The series currently has a cliffhanger, but has an upcoming season that could resolve things. 🟡 The series currently has a cliffhanger but has not been renewed (or cancelled) for a further season. 🔴 The series has ended or was cancelled with a significant plot cliffhanger.

“Waymo spokesperson Julia Ilina told SFGate the company has avoided direct pickups and drop-offs on Market Street because the designated areas would require vehicles to double park, potentially blocking transit. “Unlike human drivers, we make significant efforts to park appropriately during pick up and drop off,” Ilina said.” There has never been a more blatant lie. I see Waymos double park *all the fucking time*. They especially love to double park while also blocking bike lanes. In fact, I wo...
