This is a very bizarre story with a surprisingly large fine. South Yorkshire Police are very reluctant to prosecute and driver for endangering the life of a cyclist. Close pass a cyclist? Pulling out into the road without looking? Driving or even swerving into a cycle lane? You will be unlucky to even get a warning letter. SYP are much keener to prosecute less subjective offences, eg. mobile phone use, blocking a junction, stopped in a dangerous location. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/cd9w...

Was just burgling the neighbour's house when a passer by filmed it all, and now I am up in court. It's so unfair. This is a toot about drivers getting caught using mobile phones by cyclists. #Cycling #BikeTooter

Debian 12 (Bookworm) is now in LTS (until June 2028). You don't need to change your apt sources, but you can expect fewer updates and you should be moving to Trixie where possible. https://wiki.debian.org/LTS/Using #Debian #Linux

A57 between Hollow Meadows and Rivelin Dams still closed, but progress is getting made. Retaining wall foundation is in place. Tarmac to be done before the road opens. The road will open soon, and the wall will get finished with temporary traffic lights. #Sheffield #A57 #Cycling #BikeTooter

Having lunch in a car park. Of course there is some twat in their car with their engine on. SUV wanker too. I still don't get the whole engine idling thing. It is not that warm, just wind down the window. Engines are super inefficient when idling and the load on some parts is particularly high. Local air quality drops significantly when you do this. Please don't sit in your stationary car with the engine on. #VisionZero #NetZero

If you know something about tape cassettes but don't know how good AI is a generating content, spend 5 minutes watching this video and take note how well cassette tapes are portrayed. That is how good gen AI is at other things too, superficially looks ok, does not stand up to scrutiny. https://youtu.be/jk70HYNWlUU #AI

True to form, last week's BBC Any Questions jits the jackpot on a pointless uninformed rant about solar panels on agricultural land. Nobody talks about the amount of land used to grow biofuels.

I have a proposal to prevent this. 1. The most senior UK google exec takes the ponts and fines for any offence. 2. The fines are proportional to income. 3.once banned from driving, the next most senior exec has to take the points. https://road.cc/news/driverless-taxis-veering-into-cycle-lanes-normal-practice-says-waymo #Cycling #BikeTooter #VisionZero

The BBC specialise in making a mess of unit systems. Distant and speed are expressed as Imperial unit value (Metric unit value), but temperature is worthy of Metric unit value (Imperial unit value). The editors/authors and standard setters clearly have no idea. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr51z54d5rpo #BBC #Units #Metric
