Its amusing watching people go "nobody wants EVs" and then surprisingly "everyone wants EVs!" when oil prices go up.

My good friend Jonathan English has told me so many great stories about infrastructure over the years, really excited today that he's launched a blog (I'm helping out). First post is about how Canada became an enormous amount of the American oil market. https://open.substack.com/pub/infrastory/p/how-canada-quietly-took-over-the?r=1eh3ax&utm_medium=ios

In my french class and the other students and teachers ask casually if Canada has "le train grande vitesse" and are shocked that a "developed" country like Canada does not. Bad look.

I got on the Hogtown podcast to talk about high speed rail, subway costs, and fixing Toronto's streetcars. It was a really interesting conversation from two guys who had the best questions about transit I have heard in a very long time. People sometimes ask why I don't tend to get involved in transit union affiliated advocacy, and the issue people comes down to this. Unfortunately on a recurring basis the unions advocate for stuff that's bad for riders and for transit. https://www.cp24.com/politics/queens-park/2026/04/09/gtha-transit-unions-call-on-ford-government-to-halt-expansion-of-fare-integration-program/

Instead to looking to Asian or European cities, North American cities should look closer to home — to São Paulo for some transit inspiration. https://open.substack.com/pub/nextmetro/p/aspirationally-sao-paulo?r=1eh3ax&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

Two thoughts I was having. Ah, what if I made videos again? Oh, I could not take the stress with the way people are talking about high speed rail. . .
