  We had 4" inches of snow a couple days ago, I am putting the parka and boots away now, and in two days, it will be shorts and summer heat temps, 84F/29C. Weirdest "April showers bring May flowers ever," but I should be able to get a decent picture of my hosta flowering in a few days. #Weather #Gardening

  I rearranged the shed, which had room after the donation run on Monday. The daybed couch that could not go as part of that run fit into the empty space in the shed. I have room to potential set-up my essential oil distillation glassware. The chair for the spare room, which has been hanging out in the living area, has now gone back to the spare room.   I walked to the post office at 8:30am today because that let me combine running an errand and getting a walk across town and back while the temps were decent. The afternoon peaked at 88F/31C. A few spots inside the house peaked around 79F/26C. I have supplemental cooling that I switch on around that point. Predicted overnight lows are right at my preferred sleeping temp, so that means I can sleep with open windows to cool the house.

  As if my left eye inflammation isn't enough, my right eye has developed a sty. The added level of low-grade discomfort is annoying. I'm gonna do the warm compress thing later to help it resolve.

  I was awakened at 2:30am by the sound of intense rain, and after cross-referencing a couple websites, it seems about a quarter inch of rain fell overnight. For this to happen on the day when I normally water my garden is fantastic. I will still water a couple things because I want to train this tiny yard to root more deeply and we're about to have wacky warm temps again. Starting tomorrow.   Awake WAY too early, between the sound of the furnace turning on and what sounds like really icy wind outside. And it was chilly even with my extra fleece layer on the bed. Trying to remind myself the temps will be summer-hot two to three days from now. I need to make an accessible bedding pile in the bedroom, and stop putting stuff in the linen closet. It’s still several weeks until garden last frost dates, and I want flexibility for overnight temps within reach.

  This morning I have been reading up on local water restrictions. At present, my local area does not have anything specific enacted but we are in one of the areas of "exceptional drought," the highest rating. Residents are encouraged to not water between 10am and 6pm, and to limit watering to three times per week. This is mostly talking about lawns, and I am doing zero lawn watering.   Memo to self, for the next three days: 1) Dig out your favorite cargo shorts and that new belt which reads 'beyond the binary' over and over on it. 2) Do exercise walks in the AM, the daytime highs are going to be over 80F/27C. 3) Be ready for overnight lows near freezing again starting the night after that third hot day.   Sometime last year, a friend of Mom’s gifted her this super artful bird feeder. The whole thing is hand-carved from a single piece of wood. It’s lovely. It’s also not hardcore enough to survive the regularly-occurring 50mph+ winds, and would just be pillaged by squirrels. I have adopted the bird feeder for now, and have it at my house where I am contemplating what could fit inside it such that I could pot a tiny plant in there and let it cascade down from the openings. #Plants

  Took the bus and my droid (wheelie cart) out to get compost. Not expensive but on the heavy-schlepping side. Got two bags of mushroom compost, 1.5cu ft/35L apiece. The saffron planters were topped off with this, burying the dried plant leaves, and they will be left to their own devices until late summer.
