In case you missed it, Babylon 5 is now on YouTube! Link to the channel's videos page: https://www.youtube.com/@Babylon5/videos They've already released the first three full episodes. I believe they intend to post the full series in time. Check it out if you haven't already! #Babylon5 #YouTube

Kate Clark performs Jakob van Eyck's variations on John Dowland's Lachrymae (Flow My Tears) on renaissance flute (YouTube link): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0iGJl8Z0c4 Dowland was a late 16th-early 17th century lautist. van Eyck was a generation later, a blind carillon player and recorderist. His "Der Fluyten Lust-Hof" (The Flute's Pleasure-Garden) is perhaps the most famous compilation of pieces for woodwind. #Music #EarlyMusic #YouTube

A dramma per musica in the style of Monteverdi, Nitetis presents a Latin-language retelling of an ancient Egyptian tale (YouTube link): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5b7577vwKA This piece makes the maximum use of a paucity of forces, possibly better befitting a date circa 1610. But the style is definitely Monteverdian. Full credit to @iustinus to tipping me off to this piece. #Music #EarlyMusic #NewMusic #YouTube

Enjoy this performance by the Bremer Barockorchester of Telemann's triple concerto for violins (YouTube link): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc6cpIL5qd0 The piece starts and ends on summery notes, but its heart is an icy largo, which brought a tear to my eye. That could be in part due to my familiarity with the piece, having analyzed it extensively for my International Baccalaureate. #Music #EarlyMusic #YouTube

It's BandCamp Friday, and I have a BandCamp! https://eccentric-gear.bandcamp.com Lots of renaissance, lots of ragtime! And much is licensed as attribution-only, so you can use my pieces in your projects. (This primarily applies to the rags, to be clear.) Check it out if you're interested! #MastoMusic #BandCampFriday #BandCamp #Music

I should say it out loud: I do recommend the Irish Pagan School's YouTube channel (link): https://www.youtube.com/@IrishPaganSchool Lora O'Brian and Jon O'Sullivan present topics relevant to paganism (not just Irish), witchcraft, and history. They are very responsive to questions as well. Check out their site if you're into thse topics. #Paganism #Witchcraft #FediCoven Edit: Tagged FediCoven because I think this is relevant.

Hey folks! There's a lunar eclipse going on *right now*! If you can see the moon and are able to, check it out! Not sure if it will be total or not, but odds are good. From my observations it looks like it's going to be at maximum in maybe like half an hour? Anyway, if you can see the moon, you can see the eclipse, and it's super cool! #Moon #Eclipse #Astronomy

I've had a channel recommendation brewing for a while now. It's The Art of Storytelling. https://www.youtube.com/@theartofstorytelling1 The presenter examines a number of memes, tropes, and techniques and breaks them down for the viewer in an engaging fashion. If you're a writer or interested in the art, I do recommend. I get something out of every episode--even ones I don't think I'm interested in. Check it out.

The other day a coworker suggested I put my work up for synchronization revenue. But I can't seem to find reliable guides to actually setting this up. Does anyone have links to any? Recommendations? Disrecommendations? I don't expect to make much if anything, but I do want to make what I do available to other content creators. #Music #MusicProduction #AskFedi

PSA for witches and Pagans of all stripes: 1st May (when some people celebrate Bealtaine) will be on a full moon. Great time to do The Craft or work on personal spiritual practices that tap into that full moon energy. Just so you know! #Pagan #witch #witches #moon

Not even midnight and the Qwyrdo is going to bed down. But knowing ze made at least a small difference in someone's life, even outside of group. That's why ze continues to persist, boldly. Ze wants to be someone else's Carrie Fisher. If ze can help just one other person embrace their mental health challenges, they will be golden. A life mission fulfilled. Be the Carrie Fisher you want to see in this world. (Making this public. Don't know what hashtags to use.)

Through various circumstances, I have been reminded today that it is magic to find and appreciate small things of beauty in whatever form. A flower, a leaf, a tune, a couple holding hands, whatever. Doing so fills the soul. Doing so is also an act of resistance in these times of rampant oppression and violence. It is powerful to find the joy that others would take away from you. Find joy. Find magic. Resist and rejoice.

Happy May Day! Happy Beltaine! Happy International Workers' Day! May this day of resistance bring joy and solidarity to you.

Linguist Dr. Taylor Jones deeply analyzes a phonological shift in English as used by many pop vocalists: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BSp1SHZLXk He does this by exploring the sound change in "it's gonna be me" moving to something sounding like "it's gonna be May." #Language #Music #YouTube

It's the Qwyrdo here and I have a Bandcamp! https://eccentric-gear.bandcamp.com It started out as a platform for my digital performances of early music, but has evolved to include renditions of ragtime pieces from more than a century ago. Plus a whole album of original pieces in that style! Upcoming: an album of pieces by James Scott (one of the "Big Three" ragtime composers) and a second album of original rags. #Music #MastoMusic #BandCamp #BandCampFriday Check i...

Oops about half an hour late but I just released a pair of albums of Original Rags (m.e.r.e. 2026, i.e. the Qwyrdo). Over half an hour of new music in a style over a hundred years past. Both the classic version (minimally processed) and the de-mastered version (processed to emulate dusty old vinyl) are available on my BandCamp for $5 or more. Share and enjoy! https://eccentric-gear.bandcamp.com #Music #MastoMusic #Ragtime #Piano

Bro just shared someone turning the Imperial March (John Williams, 1977 I think?) into a fugue in the style of Bach. Very impressive, both in terms of composition and in terms of performance. You can enjoy it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-W9ow4OL-Q #Music #StarWars #Guitar #Bach

After a crash, Steam and related apps now make my laptop (Intel WhiteBook, Windows 10) overheat. I am not really a computer-toucher and need help troubleshooting what might be wrong. (Also when I went to log in on Steam's support center to figure out how to un- and re-install Steam I got told my password is incorrect, which is a lie. So I haven't gotten to do that yet.) Any help is welcome. #Help #Troubleshooting #Computer

Celestial PSA: tonight after sunset there should be a near repeat of last night's magnificent sight of the tiniest sliver of a moon alongside Venus in the western sky. I believe the two will be even closer. If it's clear where you are, consider going out and seeing if you can spot them!

Randomly found this at-least-adequately researched (didn't dive into the sources but they are there and I recognized a couple as authorities) video about Inou Tadataka and his monumental early 19th century map of the whole of Japan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85kZssX3GBc He didn't even start this project until age 55 and did it largely out of his own pocket. Truly an amazing person and piece of work. #cartography #Japan #history #YouTube
