Randomly found this at-least-adequately researched (didn't dive into the sources but they are there and I recognized a couple as authorities) video about Inou Tadataka and his monumental early 19th century map of the whole of Japan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85kZssX3GBc He didn't even start this project until age 55 and did it largely out of his own pocket. Truly an amazing person and piece of work. #cartography #Japan #history #YouTube
