Has anyone made a film about a bloke who lives such a hermit-y life he didn’t notice the apocalypse happening and then slowly realizes he’s the last one on the planet? 🤔 I’d watch that.

My game Jack Dragon and the Stone of Peace is included in this Game Industry Hardship Fund bundle. You get that and 100+ other really cool games (like Skatebird, Cook Serve Delicious, A Short Hike, Arranger, Eldritch and loads of other good stuff) for just $10 USD. That's a BARGAIN!!! Cheap as chips! AND you get to help game workers who need it. Amazeballs! https://itch.io/b/3802/game-industry-hardship-fund #unions #GameWorkers #CWA #UVW #gamingnews #gaming #gamesale #indiedev #indiegames

The example source code for three of my books is on GitHub and it’s nice that I don’t have to host that, but the idea that these Hugging Face arseholes can just steal it and sell it to other people (albeit put through the word jumble machine) pisses me off. I spent a lot of time writing those books and writing that code, why should they get it all for free? Anthropic already stole my books, now these arseholes are stealing the example source code *sigh* fuck AI.

I was thinking this morning about how making games has brought so many nice people into my world. I’ve met some amazing people because of games. Most of you lot included! Regardless of how crap I am at selling or business and all that balls: games give me a sense of purpose in my work, a way to express myself artistically, and also a load of really nice interactions with nice people. Cheers, games! And cheers you lot! 👍😎

Had an old Sinclair ZX Spectrum replica sitting around (a modern Bluetooth replica one, made by Elite) so I decided to frame it! Just used a sticky Velcro on the back so it can easily be removed without damage, if I ever use it again. I put a loading screen background in there, too. I reckon it looks pretty good! 🤓 #retrocomputing #zxspectrum #art (Edited: Uploaded the correct image file this time!)

I notice there haven’t been any good Bigfoot sightings for a while now, or UFO encounter videos… or spontaneously combusting people. We had a lot more of all that in the 80s. That and quicksand. It was everywhere. Now, though? Not a problem.

I’m once again looking for a new VPN service, then. I literally just bought a year of credit for Mullvad VPN and now I learn the owner is a fascist piece of shit. Arghhhhh. Suggestions for non-fascist VPN services welcome (so, not Proton or Mullvad then).

Anyway, enough of me moaning about traffic (I could do that all day!) let's focus on the positives instead... this fedi thing has all the best people on it! *points at the screen, right at YOU* 👉 😲 Yeah, I mean you! Bloody brilliant, you are! Hope you have a good day!

I told you not to let me 3d model, but you didn't listen did you? And this is exactly the kind of quality thing you can expect to see. I hope you're happy! 🤪

MNOZ - My Nuclear Octopus 2 now has a Steam page! Yay! You can wishlist it, if you like. That would be absolutely lovely! Thanks to @Bobbins for the wonderful cover art 🤩 Still a long way to go before it'll be ready to launch, but here begins the begging for wishlist offerings to appease the Steam gods!! 🤔 Boosts, as always, very much appreciated ❤️ https://store.steampowered.com/app/4712420/MNOZ__My_Nuclear_Octopus_2/ #indiegames #indiedev #mynuclearoctopus #steam #SteamDeck

I'd do anything to get a Greggs here in Canada. This country really needs a sausage roll and a pasty.

It’s been a fix something, break something kind of a day and I’ve somehow ended up with a broken game at the end of it. I hate leaving stuff broken overnight but after a day of breaking and fixing I’m too tired to sort it, so it’s a future me problem. Good luck to future me on fixing the game tomorrow! 🤣🤨

I’m noticing some retro computing folks using genAI to convert code from one old computer to another. I guess they do it to make themselves look clever on their retro computing FB groups or online or whatever, rather than actually learning how to do it. Torching the planet with genAI just to convert a bit of z80 to 6502 or whatever? Tragic. They can get right in the bin.

Awful stuff coming from the game studio Kylotton and publisher Nacon. Lots of layoffs, allegations of executives embezzling, abusive working conditions, Nacon union busting, anti LGBTQ+ policy and discrimination in hiring … it doesn’t look good at all. My heart goes out to the workers who have suffered under all this. #gamesindustry #union #videogames

I wish we could get affordable home solar panels here in Ontario that I could just put out on the patio like the ones available all over europe.. there's so much sunlight all year round we could easily be powering most of the province with them if the government put the effort in.

Dunno if anyone is aware or not, but Tempest 4000 is on sale on Steam right now for a ridiculously low price 80% off. It really is a thing of beauty and it belongs in everyone’s game library if you ask me. https://store.steampowered.com/app/688140/Tempest_4000/

One tragically ironic thing I’ve seen recently is union workers using Gen AI generated images to advertise their events and drum up support. Nothing says solidarity of workers like using technology that literally *steals* from workers eh?! 🤨 … no, no it doesn’t. Get in the bin, Gen AI users!

Just gone back to some super bright light bulbs in my office, after I tried some darker 'warm' light bulbs and didn't like them. Turns out I need a brighter office, otherwise it seems to put me on a bit of a downer.

Over the last two months on Itch, I've had more than 14 days of the same number of downloads of the same game.. all 4, all My Nuclear Octopus downloads. It's not a free game, but it was in a couple of charity bundles over the last few years so yeah maybe people from the bundles are downloading it.. but it seems pretty strange that there are so many days where it's exactly 4 downloads, don't you think? I don't understand it. It weirds me out. Why 4? Why so...

And the spelling of 'weird' weirds me out, too. It never looks right whether it's right OR wrong. It's weird.

Just remembered a job I once had as a delivery driver. I was fired on the same day I started because I did such a shit job of it. I crashed the van into a wall, I walked through wet concrete and got chased off the building site I was supposed to deliver to by an angry purple man, then I failed to deliver some equipment completely because I’d annoyed them so much they wanted to beat me up! It was also my birthday. Bizarre day that was! What a weird universe 🤣

Hard to understand why anyone would use a slop machine to generate a fake picture of an Amstrad computer for their blog post, but hey there it is. Ask *anyone* online with an Amstrad for a picture and they'll most likely give you one. It would be a much better way to deal with this than AI slopping one out - and it would probably make an Amstrad user's day to be asked!

Sometimes, I draw comfort from the fact that I'm in my little echo chamber and that most folks here probably already know and agree with whatever I'd have posted if I'd posted that last deleted rant 🤪🤣

Some ridiculous stuff happening at Parrot Towers today involving a space octopus amongst other things.. don't ask me what's going on, mind, I'm just pressing some buttons. #MNO2

Trying to work out how to do cutscenes in Godot - just to have some little setup animations at the start of a level. I found out you can have an AnimationPlayer on the timeline of another AnimationPlayer, which is really cool for sequencing animations. You might even be able to have multiple animation players in the timeline, I haven't tried that yet!

Watched Dust Bunny with Mads Mikkelsen and I enjoyed it. Something different and very well done. There's a point where you're not at all sure what's actually going on and then it slowly clears up. Tis good.

Just discovered a game called Turmoil on the Atari 2600 and it’s fantastic! Wish I’d known it existed before today. It’s a very *me* game!!! I wonder if I can find it on cartridge anywhere without it costing an absolute fortune?? https://youtu.be/VKrPbVaZhWw?si=phv7feiePddITbsN
