My retro computing niche is source code archaeology: the art of reconstructing maintainable source code from disassembly and reverse engineering. It's harder than it sounds but also fascinating and rewarding. I also enjoy working with unpopular or niche programming languages. I very much follow the beat of a different drum.

What's a good rule of thumb for differentiating on sight vibe coded bullshit from projects that simply leverage AI in some capacity? Discuss. #askfedi #ai #vibecode #bullshit

What is likely to replace #Reddit, at least eventually? It used to be "the front page of the Internet" having displaced #Usenet in this capacity. Reddit has slowly turned to shit. #askfedi

As someone who has had it with Reddit's heavy handedness and is looking into Lemmy again, where should I go? I see the Readdthat instance, but the pun notwithstanding I'm not sure if that's the best instance for a Reddit Refugee. Suggestions? #reddit #lemmy #askfedi

Any suggestions on a sub $500 printer that reliably self-levels its bed and has an enclosure? I have cats. I had an Ender 3 several years ago. I couldn't get it to level. Zero successful prints. I don't want a repeat. #3dprinter #askfedi

I look forward to new releases of Raku. When I first started using the language "Hello, World!" took north of 300ms as measured by `time`. Now it's down to ~100ms; #Perl is only so much faster. If that's what the #Rakulang folks can do with a hard to optimize compiler, I'm really looking forward to RakuAST. I'm sure that will take time to improve too, I get it. 1. Make it work. 2. Make it pretty. 3. Optimize it. What's left for #Rak...

I may have bricked a ThinkNode M1 due to a flashing mishap. It just says, "loading" but the firmware payload never seems to start. Attempting to use the web-based flasher causes Chrome to lockup at the select USB device popup. Holding the reset pinhole button at the bottom just power cycles the device. No failsafe mode. Is there a way to fix this locally from a Linux machine? #meshtasic #meshcore

I'm looking for a modern introduction to #C. Something that is slow and steady but through. This is as much for systems programming on Linux as embedded work; I intend to do a bit of both. Any suggestions would be helpful. #programing #programinghelp #askfedi
