As someone who has had it with Reddit's heavy handedness and is looking into Lemmy again, where should I go? I see the Readdthat instance, but the pun notwithstanding I'm not sure if that's the best instance for a Reddit Refugee. Suggestions? #reddit #lemmy #askfedi

@profoundlynerdy@bitbang.social I'm on lemmy.zip. Run by @Demigodrick@mastodon.zip who's not only a fantastic admin but also has the kind of humor sensibility I cannot appreciate enough. We've got some fun local communities, but most of the mainstream communities will be in lemmy.world (followable of course, from lemmy.zip since it's federated). You might want to also consider piefed.zip. Piefed's a bit behind Lemmy on adoption but the folks behind it have been excellent stewards.

@profoundlynerdy@bitbang.social I’ve been happy on “lemmy.ml”. There’s a page here that has some info about different instances: https://join-lemmy.org/instances

@profoundlynerdy@bitbang.social I went with Lemmy world because it was a pretty mainstream instance, but I've since found out that .world blocks a lot of communities that violate certain standards they have, and some on other instances think it's too heavy-handed that way. So something to bear in mind, you won't see everything if you're on .world. Other than that it seems fine.

  • @profoundlynerdy@bitbang.social I've been using Mbin lately, instead of Lemmy, and I've been having good fun! I find it a bit more customizable than Lemmy. You could give it a try. Honestly I'd look into what instance is closest to you, just to reduce latency. I'm on https://thebrainbin.org, which is a German instance, so that works well for me.

@profoundlynerdy@bitbang.social I wish more people would leave reddit for lemmy and other alternatives. unfortunately most of the things I browse reddit for don't have any presence on fedi at all
