Your periodic reminder that one in 300 Americans died of COVID, and mostly because they didn't get the miracle vaccine our scientists produced in record time.

Just a reminder of what Trump Tariffs do: 1. They take your money. 2. When declared illegal, they're paid back to corporations, not you. 3. They alienate our allies.

Trump's CBP has been stealing #water from New Mexico to build more of his Wall, without permission from the state. At least eight wells to pump #groundwater along the U.S.-Mexico border were drilled without state permits. https://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2026/08/05/border-wall-water-new-mexico

This kind of Muskian grotesque, ignorant, aggressive, hubris is why corporations are willing to literally destroy the Earth, ecosystems, and #climate in return for a short-term, fleeting, profit.

The speed of #climate change has accelerated dramatically in the last decade, from 0.2°C per decade from 1970 to 2015 to 0.35°C per decade over the past ten years. And politicians still fiddle while we burn. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/08/260801093239.htm

Today is the deadline for calling a special election in Kentucky. Expect the announcement that McConnell is either dead or never returning to the Senate to happen after today.

RE: https://flipboard.com/@pbsnewshour/politics-cm931oj8z/-/a--h3wAPfuQgmgN0qDXRP8bg%3Aa%3A2651838374-%2F0 As we all knew would happen. False arrest, based on lies from Trump's DOI to Trump's DOJ based on lies from Trump directly. The damage was, of course, from "contractor error".

Measles up. Explosive diarrhea worsening. Salmonella in millions of eggs Cancer research cut. Disease monitoring stopped. Vaccine efforts devastated. Pseudoscience and snake oil medicine proliferating. Parasitic flesh-eating screwworm in Texas. But Fauci.

This from RFKJr's CDC is the classic "burden of proof fallacy" and a gross abuse of science. In science (and law) the burden of proof rests on the person making a positive claim ("vaccines cause autism") to provide supporting evidence, NOT the job of the opposition to disprove it.

This is explicitly a war crime under all definitions of international law. Either no one told Trump and Hegseth, or they don't care.

Dear Hegseth and Trump, What happens when Iran has depleted our shrinking stockpile of very expensive missiles and air-defenses but still hasn't run out of their stockpile of very cheap missiles and drones? Any plans?

You know what's sad and funny at the same time? Trump just lashed out at a National Academy of Sciences #climate report but attacked the wrong one. He was probably told to attack a new report showing the strong links between human activities and climate impacts (on climate attribution) but got addled and attacked an old study on climate evidence for judges. He, and people around him, are morons. BTW, both NAS studies are excellent.

Not once has the Wall Street Journal published an editorial on #climatechange that acknowledged the definitive science that humans are changing the #climate, while publishing countless editorials rejecting, ignoring, or misrepresenting that science. This is just one more of those.

Trump accuses Canada of "willful negligence" over the #wildfires and smoke blanketing Canada and the US. It's willful negligence all right, but on the part of Trump and every other politician who has ignored the threat of #climate change for decades.

More kind words for my new book: "An immaculately documented account--complete with fascinating stories--of the threat of violence, terrorism, and war to our already endangered global water heritage. But it is also a path forward, where water can be the bridge from conflict to conservation and from war to peace. A powerful, timely, and seminal book for our time." --Maude Barlow, board chair of Food and Water Watch, and author of Blue Gold https://thenewpress.org/books/when-the-well-i...

Advance praise for my new book! "We finally have a comprehensive account of the building #water crisis that we've long needed, and that it comes with workable ideas for addressing it is a great bonus. Peter Gleick speaks with utter authority here." --Bill McKibben "Few experts have done more than Peter Gleick to illuminate the critical role of water in both conflict and cooperation. He brings unmatched expertise and compelling storytelling to one of the defining challenges...

Of course Trump is threatening the International Criminal Court. Even though the US has never recognized the authority of the ICC, it is the one international organization with some power to force accountability of the Trump administration for war crimes and violations of international law. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jul/13/marco-rubio-dismantle-international-criminal-court
