Of course Trump is threatening the International Criminal Court. Even though the US has never recognized the authority of the ICC, it is the one international organization with some power to force accountability of the Trump administration for war crimes and violations of international law. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jul/13/marco-rubio-dismantle-international-criminal-court

@petergleick@fediscience.org by some miracle if the Trump regime doesn't rig the midterms and 2028 elections, Rubio and company are going to be in deep trouble if they want to actually leave the U.S. for any reason. If by an even greater miracle they're actually held accountable for their crimes domestically, it would make fleeing the country a bit hard. Between Iran, the illegal targeting of boats in the eastern Pacific Ocean, and who knows what else, the ICC could be a major threat for them.

@petergleick@fediscience.org The only reason I can see for objecting to the ICC is that you have broken International law or intend to knowingly break International law and wish to evade the consequences of such acts, so US administration which is it?

@petergleick@fediscience.org Isn’t Rubio running Venezuela? And planning the invasion of Cuba? Now ICC? What kind of diplomacy is this?
