I've had Polish bassist Kinga Głyk's 2024 album Real Life on repeat for a while. I haven't found such joy and comfort in a fusion album since Senri Kawaguchi's Cider Hard and Sweet. Głyk lacks the macho virtuosity of someone like Vincen García (a good thing), but her playing has just the right blend of groove and joy that creates the best music. Check it out if you're into this sort of music. https://music.apple.com/ca/album/real-life/1715522272 #Kinga...

If you ever see a #translation that's unclear or confusing, don't always assume the #translator is bad. It could just be that they lost the battle. Ask me how I know. 😳 I generally make it a point of pride to advocate for readers of my translations—almost to a fault. But sometimes, you just have to throw up your hands and say, so be it. In 22 working days, you won't have this guy to kick around anymore (but who's counting). #xl8 #freelancetranslator #retireme...

I'm not sure why it’s so funny to me, but hearing native (usually unilingual) English-speakers try to pronounce Angine de poitrine (anne-jean duh pwah-treen) cracks me up every time. Also, as someone whose musical tastes fortunately lead to very little exposure to AI-generated music, the idea (heard on a recent podcast) that the band’s popularity is a least partly because AI could NEVER come up with something so bonkers kind of blows my mind. But I totally see it. #Anginedepoitrine

One of the best things about retiring is that I have zero f*&ks to give. I'm not the most diplomatic person at the best of times, but I try to be polite, and my clients tend to value my “directness." (Or that's what I keep telling myself…) But with only a few weeks left to go, there’s this liberating sense that, especially for this one fairly new and somewhat annoying client, I can be myself. So... "Dear client, As soon as possible" is bas...

Ok, this just randomly occurred to me. Maybe it’s obvious to everyone but me. Spandex is an anagram of expands. 🤯

@sean@scoat.es When I was there, they were pretty generous with the samples. :)

@sean@scoat.es Not bourbon-alternative, but have you ever tried the spirits from Dunrobin (right next door to Beau’s). I picked up a bottle of port-wood aged rye there last year and it was surprisingly good. I also sampled the malt whisky and enjoyed it too.
