  I'm kinda disappointed with 007 First Light. I'm a huge Bond fan. I've seen every movie, most more than once. I'm also a fan of IO Interactive and their previous work on the Hitman series. Hitman 3 is a masterpiece. We waited a long time for First Light to come out, and considering it had a 2 month delay for "polish and refinement", I had high expectations. If you treat it like yet another Bond movie, it's pretty good. #007FirstLight...

  It's not a bad James Bond story. It's maybe 10 hours for the main campaign. The combat and gadgets are decent (despite kludgy melee). The problem is there is very little in the way of freedom, exploration, or creativity. There's often only one solution or path. I expected different mechanics based on Hitman. Perhaps that's my mistake. I don't think this game is going to be very re-playable though, so I can't recommend it at $70. Wait for it to g...

  I do not believe knowledge can be stolen. I don't think we should have software patents. I'm skeptical of copyright law in general, particularly as implemented in the US.

  Upgraded puddle.town to Mastodon 4.6.0. Everything went smoothly, but I had to upgrade Node 20 to Node 22, and Ruby needed some help getting from 3.x to 4.x. It wasn't difficult, but read those release notes!

  I built FFmpeg 7.1.5 from source since Ubuntu is moving slowly on CVE-2026-8461, and leaving a Mastodon server that processes untrusted media all day long unpatched seems like a bad idea. So anyway, testing with a #Goose post.

  The mayor's ad hominem attacks against the opposition are only going to trigger the Streisand effect. I applaud the website for bringing attention to the issue.   Looking for some hope wherever I can find it, we did get a couple wins from the supreme court today. This ruling says that geofence warrants (which compel tech companies to hand over smartphone location data based only on anyone's proximity to a crime scene) require Fourth Amendment protections. Kagan wrote the majority opinion, stating that individuals have a "reasonable expectation of privacy" for their cell phone location data. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news...

  P.S. The ad networks aren't listening to you, but they're terrifyingly good at predicting your behavior! They know who you're spending time with via location data. They know what you and those people have already bought. They know your age and other demographic characteristics. They know you lingered on an Instagram ad for 3 seconds before scrolling.   I'm a year or two into the HDHomeRun + Channels combo and I have to say it was 100% worth the time and initial investment. It's been a great way to watch the Olympics, which is why I'm thinking about it now. It's basically an over the air (OTA) automated digital video recorder (DVR) with slick apps for iOS/macOS/tvOS.
