Looking for some hope wherever I can find it, we did get a couple wins from the supreme court today.
This ruling says that geofence warrants (which compel tech companies to hand over smartphone location data based only on anyone's proximity to a crime scene) require Fourth Amendment protections.
Kagan wrote the majority opinion, stating that individuals have a "reasonable expectation of privacy" for their cell phone location data.
