Was messing around on the Switch last night, got a little bored with Octopath Traveller & opened the Nintendo Online service (which for some reason we got so we could do voice chat even though we're in the same house). Wound up playing Fire Emblem for Game Boy Advance (I think it was GBA) & it holds up pretty well. I guess this is the benefit of 2D sprites..they age way more gracefully than polygons do.

I quit taking my antidepressants sorta just to see what that would feel like (I did it very gradually). I went from 20 mg to 10 mg and felt pretty good. Then I went to 5 mg and felt really good. Then I eventually went to 0 mg and still felt really good. Two weeks later and I am SO damned out of it. Brain fog, headaches, unable to focus, catching movement out of the corner of my eye when nothing is there. Apparently this is a thing. You feel like you're thru the process and BAM! It gets y...

Probably not gonna matter to 99.9% of the folks who see this, but there's a vulnerability in a Wordpress plugin, Gravity SMPT, and I'm seeing a TON of probes for it across our 130 sites. If you have a wordpress blog and happen to use this plugin, be sure it is updated, and if it isn't, issue yourself new API/OAuth keys for your email provider. Assume someone has already hit your site and collected that data from you. (1/2)

I didn't get as much time exploring 999 Nights in NTE as I would have liked, but what I did see was quite enjoyable, if a little silly. The silliness of the scenario is offset by your characters being VERY aware they are in a game & discussing game tropes & such as they play. I'll probably blog about this but in the meantime Bhagpuss has a good post on it: https://bhagpuss.blogspot.com/2026/07/dicing-with-dragons-in-nte.html

Our IT dept has now blocked our (the web development team) use of devtools. Hit F12 and you get an error message saying we're not allowed to use them. This company has it's head so far up it's own backside....

I thought that Over The Hill (its in the current Next Fest) would be somewhat similar to Snowrunner. It isn't. It is an almost exact Snowrunner clone only with low poly graphics. Even the controls are the same. I'm cool with game devs being inspired by other games but this is SO similar that it gave me "the ick" as the kids say.

Wanted to get all my obligations out of the way so I could have a relaxing afternoon, so decided to take my long walk at 1:30PM. On a sunny June day in the south. It isn't CRAZY hot (93F/34C) but it's still too hot for walking along the pavement in the direct sun. I shoulda gone to a nature trail, or waited until later in the afternoon. These days my aim is 5K steps. In theory I'd like to get back to 10K but that's going to take a bit. 5K is hard enough. But at...

Movie night tonight was The Running Man, the remake starring Glen Powell. We thought it was pretty good. It was more serious than how I remember the original being, and at the same time the satire felt more biting even though the whole "TV networks control everything" message would work better as 'media companies' in a more general sense today. Or maybe that's just me since I don't want "live" TV at all anymore. OTOH the gap...

I may have sold Solarpunk short. I'd only played for a few hours when I wrote my post, and hadn' experienced bad weather yet. Game has some intense thunderstorms that can destroy crops and stuff. Also you can get hit by lightning. Also I now know what happens when you die (you drop all your stuff and respawn at where you initially started the game). There must be a way to update your spawn point, though.

Nintendo e-shop has their sale going, like everyone else. At the same time, Amazon has $10 Nintendo e-shop cards for $8.98. (US only, I'm afraid). https://a.co/d/0aYUlizs It's only the $10 cards that are on sale as far as I can tell. And you might be limited to 2. But hey, 10% off is 10% off, right?

Pretty good Game Pass month for me this month. Forza Horizon 6, Mixtape, Outbound: Three games I have been looking forward to playing. Guess I better start making room on the drives. FH6 will probably be pretty big.

Last night in Neverness to Everness I took a break from following the main quest line and did a side quest. Named enemy was level 28. I ALMOST took him out but not quite. Then I realized I'd never bothered to level up my characters. Had enough geegaws to level them all to 20 and I mopped the floor with the boss. If a group of level 1 characters can almost take out a level 28 enemy... I'm gonna call that a pretty casual combat system. Maybe the balance changes later on.

I feel like if this playlist resonates with you, you'll probably enjoy Mixtape. Honestly it's more visual novel than game but damn is it EVER plucking at my nostalgia heart strings. Also probably obvious but play it with headphones.
