I hate AI generated posters. Aesthetically and just ethically. But I'm collaborating with another small business and they've generated a poster to promote the event. It's more a community event and we're barely covering costs. It still feels a little icky :(

There is no bigger compliment to this laksa auntie than seeing people ditching their soup spoons to drink the last bits of broth directly from the bowl. Never fails to make me happy.

Today we had to tell two semi-regular customers that we would not be serving them any more. It wasn't dramatic. It was a quiet conversation in the back booth. It was not a decision that we made lightly, but it had to be done.

Someone started a petition for the federal govt to suspend/reverse the sudden astronomical increase in RRVs (Resident Return Visas) for Australian permanent residents, or introduce a reasonable fee linked to actual processing costs and normal indexation. #auspol "Permanent residents have already undergone extensive immigration assessment and have contributed to Australia through employment, taxation, business, education and community participation. Their practical ability to return to...

It's finally happened. The forest I used to walk past every day before and after school is being cleared for housing. It was only a matter of time, but it's still sad.

Attending this today and am super excited, but also a little anxious. Social things are hard. 😬 Looking forward to listening and learning, and hopefully some good conversation :)

They may destroy our land, our buildings our homes... "but our food... It persists. Like weeds pushing through cracks in the pavement" The words of Antoun Issa, Lebanese-Australian journalist, at yesterday's literary saloon. Resistance comes in many forms - sometimes it is loud and brash, sometimes it is soft, subtle. Sometimes just taking up space is an act of resistance.

Just so y'all know... The federal govt just increased the cost for permanent residents leaving the country. Not by a few hundred dollars.. but by 300%. Overnight, on 1 July, the cost for an RRV (resident return visa) went from $490 to $1475. This visa expires every 5 years. 🙃 So fuck you if you have family overseas I guess. #auspol

I sometimes have to pinch myself when I watch these recordings because I actually look like I know what I'm doing 😅 I never danced as a child and I am often surrounded by dancers who have done ballet for years, so I always feel a little technically inadequate. Perhaps that's why I love contemporary so much, because while technique is important, feeling the music in your body is even more so. #fortiesfitness #adultdancer

So we had a record day today (in terms of sales), but it's not something I feel great about. We pride ourselves on the quality and consistency of our food and service... And today was not our best showing. Service was manic and patchy, and wait times were longer than I would like.

Thank god I don't work in an office 🤣 Currently my favourite de-stressing activity in between writing, book-keeping and cooking things.

Been playing around with baked butter mochi. They've turned out pretty well in the canele moulds. These ones are with Miso, Gula Melaka and toasted sesame. The sweet-savoury vibe makes them extremely moreish. 🤤

No matter how many times I move it away, our very scary guard dog always drags her bed to the middle of the hallway so she can keep an eye on the door (and the front yard).

I used to have a vespa. Just a cute little zippy primavera. I loved it. It was fuel efficient, parking was free and it was fun to ride. I had to sell it because my parents need a car when they visit (every 6 months), and I couldn't afford to pay registration for both. I do miss it. Maybe one day...

Just had a wonderful morning talking all things food and stories at the Brimbank Writers Festival. Organisers and participants were all so lovely and I got to hear about the many exciting projects that people were working on. ☺️

I've said it once, and I'll say it again and again. If you need to physically assault and belittle you subordinates to handle the pressure... Then you are NOT, in fact, handling 'the heat' and should be the one to get out of the kitchen. (And maybe get some help)
