The fact that that European right wing officials, from Italy to Finland, are posting traitorous threats against Spain *on twitter*, specifically, is as terrifying as it is grotesquely pathetic https://report.az/en/other-countries/finnish-minister-criticizes-spain-over-schengen-external-border-protection

The past 48 hours have shown the absolute worst of Europe - hypocrisy, pettiness, absence of solidarity, shortsightedness, deep and prevailing racism, inability to lead, and an overwhelming subservience to hostile powers subjugating us Meanwhile, at least 67 people are dead and we don't care at all

Europeans and embracing a racist/islamophobic/transphobic disinformation campaign aimed at dividing and subjugating them - you really can't name a better duo

I just fixed up a Macintosh Classic using the old 99 Bottles of Beer song so I had to do a writeup about this silly technique lol https://blog.vladovince.com/99-bottles-of-beer-headless-macintosh-testing/

A Porco Rossoesque surprise - we came back to Zagreb today and caught an air show from our balcony I feel very conflicted about military planes performing, but watching the CL-415 Super Scooper and Air Tractor AT-802 demonstrate their firefighting moves was pure joy

What luck! I unexpectedly came across this wonderful little cafe inside an old JŽ Baat train car, on the old Sarajevo - Dubrovnik - Herceg Novi narrow gauge railroad (bosnabahn)

Surreal developments on the busiest BiH - Croatia border crossing today. The old Gradiška bridge suffered significant damage and had to close down. The brand new motorway bridge and the new border crossing, which never opened due to inter BiH conflict, magically got approvals to start operations. https://www.tportal.hr/vijesti/clanak/video-stigle-prve-snimke-otvoren-novi-granicni-prijelaz-u-gradisci-20260519

A crowd gathered today in Zagreb to protest last week's publicity stunt arrests of spouses of two opposition politicians, by the grotesquely corrupt state attorney Turudić. https://en.vijesti.me/world-a/balkan/753980/Uhapsen-musician-Mile-Kekin Croatia's democratic backsliding is completely flying under the radar at this time of much bigger crises. I could barely find any news in English about this. Only domestic political organizing can save it from fully going down the autoc...

Dejan Ristanović passed away in Belgrade today. Dejan was the founder of the Računari u vašoj kući, magazine that brought us the Galaksija computer, he founded Sezam BBS and later PC Press magazine. His work introduced computers and networks to countless people over the years. May he rest in peace. https://pcpress.rs/preminuo-dejan-ristanovic-glavni-i-odgovorni-urednik-pc-press-a/

Another Macintosh lives! This Classic was saved by the Radiona hacker space. Despite the nasty battery it only required a little bit of cleaning and it booted right up after only a partial recap (I'll finish it up of course). A special treat - the hard drive had the localized Yugoslav System 6 installed. First time I'm actually seeing this in the wild. And it has a local keyboard! Next step is cloning the drive.

Today I picked up this beautiful map of Austro-Hungarian railways from 1906

I got a very interesting HŽ timetable. It's dated May 1994 - September 1994, with a note that it may be extended through May 1995. It's also labelled for official use, but otherwise it's identical to public timetables from that time. It was presumably published with only 4 months of validity because of the then still ongoing war and the expectation that control of railroads may change suddenly. There are a number of empty pages showing stations in Serb occupied territory...

Some train archeology on the Kumrovec line, a champion of #CrossBorderRail that crosses between 🇸🇮 and 🇭🇷 dozens of times Thanks to this unique border crossing feature, the line has been shut down between Harmica 🇭🇷 and Imeno 🇸🇮 for 26 years now. Replacement buses ran for a while, with promises of a service restoration that never came. Restoring this railroad is such a no brainer - it would revitalize villages and towns on both sides of the Sutla river.

The Israeli interference in the Slovenian election needs attention NOW, before people go to the polls on Sunday. Slovenia recognized the Palestinian state in 2024 and was often alone in its opposition to the genocide in Gaza. This interference is a direct attack on democracy in Europe. https://www.politico.eu/article/robert-golob-slovenia-eu-probe-israeli-black-cube-election-campaign/

The absolute highlight of this year's #Marchintosh is Canvas, another fantastic program by @kalleboo. Canvas let's folks on #GlobalTalk write and draw on a shared canvas, one pixel at a time. It requires patience and FatBits skill, but it's lots of fun. Can you find my drawing?
