  In other slightly related notes, what got us is the convenience of doing a lot of things seamlessly, easily, all online, without having to go anywhere. This freedom is now being taken back under the argument of "security" (in all its facets, like securing your account, safeguarding your kids, etc.), with big vendors forcing you to use this validation technique or this authentication method.   We had relatively heavy construction work going on at our place last week (heavy as in lots of dust & dirt we had to clean out upon our return, even if we had cleaning done before we returned). Part of the cleanup was removing a wall mount where I have 11 medals of various "The Conqueror Challenges" I did over the year, with multiple virtual walk / hike / cycling tours, for quite some distance.   One of the most rewarding things I did since beginning of 2026 was to renovate a stylish but worn out IKEA VARDE kitchen shelf by sanding it and painting it in RAL 7038. I also sanded & polished the drawer handles. Excellent way to spend time, and useful as well. I also painted two IKEA stools I had around, the set looks quite neat and will pair nicely with our future home interior. This is so much more rewarding than any IT work, and I could see myself doing more of this in the future...

  Sent my wife's old & no longer active Wix website to /dev/null and closed our account. Even a couple months after redirecting all DNS records to a new different site (hosted somewhere else) I find it amazing (or perhaps not) that typical Wix SEO spammers would still reach out. At least it was a useful reminder to say good riddance.

  In the middle of a home renovation project. Having fun* (*really) filling up excel sheets with costs, things to purchase, where to move money from, who to pay when, etc. while also dealing with suppliers. This is cool.

  What a busy extended weekend.
