"A suite of new laws restricting cooperation between Maine law enforcement and Department of Homeland Security agents is set to take effect today, less than three weeks after an ICE agent shot and killed 25-year-old Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine. These “ICE Out laws,” as they’re collectively known, will limit collaboration between state and local police and federal agents, and forbid landlords, hospitals, and schools from sharing personal information with ICE.&q...

Alright, occupational hazard. I dropped off my reject pile at my friend's book store, and then saw this. Normally the cover and the Stephen King plug would turn me off, but starting into it, this might be a modern Lucifer's Hammer, but hopefully without the racism and sexism. We'll see! #books

I saw a terrible message from DigitalOcean yesterday. I was helping a co-worker learn to do SASL authentication with Postfix, using Dovecot to do the heavy lifting, (second co-worker this week! Breaking people free from Google!) and we got to the point where we were ready to have him send out a test email - a reply to an email I'd just sent him that exercised all the moving parts of his inbound path. But when he tried to send, he couldn't talk to my email server. I checked to make sure...

A friend asked me, "Why is Google moving away from Kubernetes?" I realized that I hadn't ever seen anything put together to talk about it. So I looked, and this talks about it, and has some interesting data I hadn't seen previously: https://aws.plainenglish.io/why-even-google-is-rethinking-kubernetes-internally-a4c457252450 Of course, today, the LLM addiction is doing even more economic harm to companies, but this stuff is still worth knowing. #kubernetes #google

I've used pkgbasify for the first time, and then immediately thereafter, I upgraded a FreeBSD 15 box to 15.1 with pkg. This is really dramatically faster than freebsd-update. I think I'm hooked on pkgbase now. #freebsd

My wife called CVS and couldn't get through the automated system. So I called. I ignored the prompts. I said "raptor" a few times, "help" once, and I made a gurlging noise partway through before reverting to "raptor". Did the trick and I was talking to a person in less than a minute. #cvs #llm #apocalypse
