Alright, occupational hazard. I dropped off my reject pile at my friend's book store, and then saw this. Normally the cover and the Stephen King plug would turn me off, but starting into it, this might be a modern Lucifer's Hammer, but hopefully without the racism and sexism. We'll see! #books

This book started so strong! It was going to be a post-catastrophe thriller, a modern Lucifer's Hammer. I'm on page 171, and the catastrophe that started on day one hasn't really inconvenienced anyone. There's no TV any more, no broadcasts, no power. The book is done in another 121 pages, and I'm hoping something exciting happens in that time. The setup is now more than complete. The stage is set. There's not a speck of dust on the stage, not a hair out of place. The characters are well-defined, and we're ready to see them thrown into crazy, unexpected situations they're not quite ready to face. SO ready. But on page 171, there's a doctor, and despite his being in a bunker with other folks, he insists on seeing them over Zoom calls. =record scratch noise= #books
