Some conclusions from this weekend (2/2): - It’s impossible to analyse Big Tech without looking at fossil fuel interests and how they align with capitalist extraction and convenient alignments with fascist politics. - The Cloud is not merely ‘someone else’s computer’ but a major production environment that decisively shapes economic output and institutional performance and autonomy. - Let’s make more zines! - And please stop using generative AI to prove a point on your slides...

New data by CBS, the Dutch statistics agency, suggest that data centres consumed 4,6 % of the Netherlands’ electricity in 2024. In 2017, data centre consumption amounted to just 1,5 % of all electricity supplied. In the accompanying media coverage (https://nos.nl/artikel/2594650-ongeveer-45-datacenters-gebruiken-net-zo-veel-stroom-als-1-9-miljoen-woningen), @roeldobbe hints that a further increase (without expansion of supply) may lead to higher energy bills for Dutch households in the future....
