New data by CBS, the Dutch statistics agency, suggest that data centres consumed 4,6 % of the Netherlands’ electricity in 2024. In 2017, data centre consumption amounted to just 1,5 % of all electricity supplied.
In the accompanying media coverage (https://nos.nl/artikel/2594650-ongeveer-45-datacenters-gebruiken-net-zo-veel-stroom-als-1-9-miljoen-woningen), @roeldobbe hints that a further increase (without expansion of supply) may lead to higher energy bills for Dutch households in the future.

@livliilvil@waag.social @roeldobbe@akademienl.social Yep, can confirm: Ireland let Data Centres eat all the energy and domestic customers are picking up the bill.
