I just keep thinking about this quote from Adrian Tchaikovsky's "service model". "Humans have been reading personality and self-determination into inanimate phenomena since long before Alan Turing ever proposed a test. The level of complexity in interaction required for an artificial system to convince a human that it is a person is pathetically low.” It's not the whole story of LLM's, of course - there's a huge layer of grift! But it explains a lot.

The rise of One Nation in Australia makes me sick to my stomach, & deeply ashamed of my country. There are no depths they will not stoop to, no people they will not harm, in pursuit of power and profit. You might not feel vulnerable, but harming vulnerable people harms us all. We gotta call it out.

This is your reminder that whether it's women's toilets or women's sport, it's not about safety or fairness, it's about policing your performance of gender. Yes! Yours! Trans people aren't a threat to you, but gender police are a threat to everyone.

Happy Transgender Day of Visibility! As cisgender people, we can be allies by, among other things: 1. Interrupting/challenging people who deadname/misgender trans people 2. Using inclusive language - eg "folks" instead of "ladies and gentlemen" 3. Learning more about the experience of trans people by reading and listening to them 4. Sharing the work of trans people to raise their visibility 5. Calling out transphobic/gender essentialist behaviour 6. Supporting...

Just got my flu vaccine and a covid booster at my local pharmacy. Strongly recommend getting both yearly, to lessen the risk of serious illness, and long lasting complications.
