I'm at the point where I don't even want opt-in "'AI' capability" in any software I'm forced to use, because the griftslop bastards will absolutely steal everything, nailed down or not, EVEN IF the settings are turned to "no, no, absolutely not, HELL no."

I'm hearing rumbles that even if you load a non-"AI" ad graphic to a Meta platform and turn the "re-generate with 'AI'" setting OFF, Meta will sneakily turn it back ON, slopify it, serve the slop version, and flag it as "AI". If a human sees it, congrats, you're now branded as a slopmonger.

Removing the digital asbestos of "AI" will be a growth industry for the next decade at least. Wonder if any techbros are positioning themselves to take advantage of *that*.

...I updated the OS and now Apple has decided to shove its slopbot into individual app settings instead of providing an all-purpose off switch. Attempting to hide how much slop they're inflicting on customers--and forcing people to go looking to opt out--is not good business practice.

Please stop saying chatbots "admitted they were wrong" or "talked to" other chatbots. These things are statistical programs *doing what they are programmed to do*. I know humans love anthropomorphising things, I do it at the drop of a hat, but this is NOT the place for it.

"But that really is the current state of the tech industry: a death cult obsessed with growth empowered by a media ecosystem obsessed with measuring and celebrating how much it’s growing and might grow in the future, always framed in the terms set by the rich and powerful." https://www.wheresyoured.at/concentration-risk/

Calls for “the public” to “own ‘AI’” are just a transparent attempt to make the general populace hold the trillion-dollar bag for a con game. There is no reason ordinary people need to pick up the tab for this particular Ponzi scheme.

I am still utterly gobsmacked by companies who want to pass themselves off as author-centric thinking that being "AI"-friendly is a good thing. Even the *perception* of being "AI"-friendly is enough to make actual authors avoid your services like the plague. (The exception here is, of course, slop-peddlars doing author cosplay. Build your company on those grifters and surprise, surprise, you'll be even more radioactive to actual writers.)

Continuing the morning with an, "I'm not upset, I'm deeply disappointed" in a professional email. It really does seem some companies providing services to authors somehow don't get how damaging the perception of "AI" contamination is. If your company looks like it's going slopward, customers will jump ship if at all possible. The reputational damage might not immediately breach the wider trust thermocline (thank you, @garius@mastodon.me.uk, for that concept)...

Fellow indie authors, I have a question! I used Canva for marketing images and quickie placeholder covers until they went full-on "AI" slop, then I switched to BookBrush. Now the latter is exhibiting... disturbing signs. Do you have a similar, "AI"-unfriendly service you like?

I was convinced grilled cheese would fix me. Havarti, dill, tomato, on nice crispy sourdough, and I am pleased to report I was right. It *did* fix me. Plus, Boxnoggin enjoyed bits of crust. He is quite pleased, and still smacking his lips.

“‘AI’ checkers” exist simply and solely to feed and “train” the slop machines further. Do not use them, do not let them near your work. They are just an end-stage fillip of the grift. I cannot state it any more plainly.
