I swear this scenario happens every time: Game company: "You can't play this game offline, you have to use our DRM that breaks if we don't push through files correctly, If the server ever goes offline you'll understand that you don't own the game anymore right? We HAVE to do this to provide... updates." Pirates: "Yeah we just emulated their DRM server with some dummy files, Have fun playing offline with the copy you own forever."

Ugh every time I see Bear Grylls' mug it makes me wish Les Stroud had gotten more popular of the two here in the US. Looks like he's been showing up pretty regularly on Canadian programming though, so I guess he's living his life just fine.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org Great poll, was cool to se the results! I think you'd be interested in this study they did on this topic back in 2021: https://neurosciencenews.com/music-youth-17765/ tl;dr: we have a bias for remembering things during certain period of our lives between 10 and 30, during that time how much music has effected us and when tends to remain a favorite of ours as we get older. With a cascading generational bias towards what our parents listened to as well. I'd also like t...

Anyone got a good recommendation for a desktop TOTP authenticator for Linux? I'm slowly trying to phase out using my smart phone entirely to get back to a dumb phone and that's my main thing holding me back. #Linux #totp #arch

Artists, I am on my hands and knees begging you: sign. your. artwork. Yes I know some weirdos out there will crop it off, but nothing sucks worse than having saved a picture real quick and then coming back to it and having no idea who the artist was. I've got tons of pics I've been trying to slowly tag, but most reverse image search services are janky at best. Just a lil sig is all I need!

Mindrace's debut album is so exciting to me. I rarely indulge in searching out nostalgia, so when the heartfelt passion of the vocals, the raw distortion in the production, and the breakdowns hit I was sent back to '04 in such a fond way because it isn't another band from that era trying to recapture the feelings they had in their twenties. It was fresh and new, and it's all composed by one person Scott Liyang Wu. The lyrics discuss the feeling of having a bett...

The good music keeps coming! Himitzu releasing some live tracks off their new album is such a fantastic power move to show their talents aren't only in-studio, but the drummer is doing something I've said for a long time that your band's sound would greatly benefit if the drummer had a pad for playing samples. Having a separate pedal for bass drum samples was a fantastic idea allowing the drummer to switch as easily as you would moving your foot from a double pedal to hi-...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXdVG45wveo Another great @TechConnectify video. One similar thing that has bugged me for so long is for some reason honking or having a back up tone to indicate you can't see behind you while driving in reverse is only necessary in commercial applications like driving a box truck and even then in most places it's optional. Uhaul trucks don't even have a tone and they're driven a good portion of the time by complete beginners wh...

I love opening up mastodon and getting greeted by tech professionals, historians, game devs, cyberpunk weather-entities, various wizards witches and other magic beings, artists, musicians, and a whole bunch of other folks that make life fun and interesting. This is the future I want.

Okay so I've just been sleeping on Nervosa for years now. Their new album "Slave Machine" feels like Angela Gossow-era Arch Enemy but pushed and evolved to something only accomplished by years of perfecting their sound. I haven't had an album to headbang while driving down the highway to in forever.

With the removal of physical media players in cars I find myself not keeping around albums specifically for driving around anymore. Like yeah It's nice to put on a curated playlist from your phone or DMP, but sometimes you just wanna start up the car, throw a disc in, and not have to wait for bluetooth to pair or navigate menus and tweak whatever.

Pour out one for bands who had a good name but it got culturally destroyed. Out of them all ISIS and Goon really got the short end of the stick.
